University project where a team of students, under the guidance of professionals and lecturers, build a solar vehicle that competes in races locally and internationally. • Upgraded and repaired parts of the existing solar vehicle (2016) • Part of the travel team that competed in the Sasol Solar Challenge, South Africa (2016) • Built parts of a new solar vehicle and trained new students to become part of the team (2017) • Part of the travel team that competed in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (2017) Final Year Project, NWU Solar Team (2017) As part of the design for the new solar vehicle, the carbon fiber rim design and manufacturing process needed to be documented, investigated and improved where necessary. The project goal was to replace the current aluminum rims with carbon fiber rims.
