Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai | Sep 2022 - Present

Postdoctoral Researcher

• Performed experiments on induced pluripotent stem cells to investigate lateral and normal force exerted by cells. • Performed experiments on mouse brain slices to determine factors by which youth-associated blood-borne factors that shape brain circuits linked to learning and memory in physiology and in aging and Alzheimer’s disease, affect the stiffness of the hippocampus. • Designed, and executed a novel setup integrating atomic force microscopy along with electrical pacing to drive frequency of cardiomyocyte beating and measure the force exerted by cells. • Designed a magnetic actuation system to drive magnetic microcantilevers and fluidic probes with magnetic beads and created a signal acquisition and processing scheme for mass measurement. Other duties • Project and lab management • Mentoring and training of undergraduate, and Master students • Project collaboration across interdisciplinary teams • Grant and publications writing

Biomechanical Scientist

Modelling and simulation Performed simulations using finite element modelling and active kinetic spring models to predict forces in cells based on their geometry and cytoskeletal components. (MATLAB) Modelled and simulated a Robotic Legged System in forward progression. (MATLAB) Modelled a Zigzag Structure Energy Harvester for Heartbeat powered Pacemakers. (MATLAB) Modelled the bending of a PDMS micropillar to ascertain the stress distribution in the pillar. (ANSYS) Design and fabrication Manufactured multiple microscale biocompatible devices for live cell experiments using a combination of soft lithography, microfabrication and microcontact printing. Designed masks for creating Silicone molds for microdevice manufacturing. (Solidworks) Wet lab techniques Cultured and maintained a wide range of human and mouse cells including, Primary Aortic Smooth muscle cells, HELA (cervical cancer), HUVEC (endothelial) and RAW 264.7 (Macrophages). Performed immunofluorescence staining and quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) to quantify differences in gene expression levels of cytoskeletal proteins. Microscopy and imaging Proficient in the use of Confocal and Inverted Phase Contrast Fluorescence microscope (5+ years’ experience) and trained in the use of scanning electron microscopy (Zeiss GeminiSEM 300 Field Emission SEM). Data science and machine learning Created a pipeline for batch processing of data obtained from real-time imaging of fluorescently labelled pillars. (MATLAB) Used James Munkres's variant of the Hungarian assignment algorithm along with Hilbert-Huang transform to perform multi-object tracking and morphodynamical profiling of subcellular forces. (MATLAB) Created a flappy bird game using Pygame and used NEAT (NeuroEvolution of Augmenting Topologies), an evolutionary algorithm to train an AI to play the game. (PYTHON)

NYU Tandon School of Engineering | Sep 2017 - May 2021

Lead Mentor, Applied Micro-Bioengineering Lab

Served as a lead mentor for the laboratory mentorship and outreach programs including Undergraduate Summer Research Program (UGSRP) (undergraduate students), Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering (ARISE) program (high school students) and Research Experience for Teachers: COSMOS program (high school teachers).

New York University | Sep 2016 - May 2021

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Taught and designed experiments for undergraduate laboratory courses on Thermodynamics and Fluid mechanics. Led recitations and discussion sessions for an undergraduate course on thermodynamics and graduate course on Advanced manufacturing of Biomedical devices.

Larsen & toubro | Jul 2014 - Jul 2015

Senior Engineer

Supervised the sales and Marketing of SUMOCHAM Line of Drilling Products manufactured by ISCAR and marketed by LTCTL in India. Analyzed sales data to formulate strategies to counter Competitor Products and for replacing older products with newer products leading to a 30% increase in the sale of Indexable drills, a monetary equivalent of 0.6 Million USD. Designed custom drills for novel applications for companies such as Siemens, Bharat Forge, BHEL and Hindustan Aeronautical Limited. Proficiency gained: MS Suite especially MS Excel and Outlook, Supply chain management using SAP, Customer Interaction and Machine tool design.
