Stranding & Research Scientist: Data & Operations

-Curate in-house relational database of marine mammal and sea turtle stranding data (including table, form and query creation); oversee entry and data accuracy in national database. -Track/curate data associated with stranding response (including final QC of level A and HI data), necropsies (including editing and finalizing necropsy reports, etc.), and biomedical investigations. -Oversee sample management and collection (sample tracking, executing external and internal sample requests, updating protocols, track and review diagnostic sample results, update reports, etc.). -Assist senior scientists with accounting and financial reconciliations (including purchasing and grant expense tracking). -Assist with grant proposals to support stranding operations (including Prescott and CZM grants). -Write and/or contribute to permitting, technical reports, and operational and research grant reporting, including writing narrative, gathering and displaying data. -Develop and update protocols, train staff, interns, and fellows in stranding data collection and curation. -Served as project lead for multiple marine animal research projects -Serve as Stranding & Research Group representative on synergistic teams (including serving as the primary voting representative on the Greater Atlantic Regional Stranding Consortium). -Conduct detailed post-mortem forensic investigations on sea turtles, seals, and cetaceans, including natural and human-related mortalities/morbidities. -Respond to reports of sea turtle crawls/nests, verify and locate egg chamber, collect egg(s) as necessary for research, participate in nest hatching supervision, including handling/release as necessary.
