UK Health Security Agency | Jan 2022 - Present

Data Scientist

Leveraging data science techniques in order to identify, monitor, and mitigate threats to public health as part of UKHSA's national health security mission. • Implemented a Bayesian statistical model using R and Stan to estimate the effectiveness of NHS COVID-19 app in reducing positive Omicron cases, hospitalisations and deaths. • Developed software tool in Python to automate extraction, enrichment and ingestion of data in order to support avian influenza surveillance. • Designed and fitted non-linear least squares regression models in R to genomic sequencing data in order to estimate the prevalence of different sub-lineages of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 over time. • Partnered with University of Oxford and University of Warwick academics to evaluate and measure the impact of the NHS Covid-19 App through published research. • Led projects and line-managed junior data scientists in cross-functional delivery team. • Communicated analysis findings and insights to public health officials, epidemiologists, and data scientists to guide future research and inform policy. • Leveraged cloud platforms such AWS and Azure to develop and productionise analysis at scale.

Worked within areas of Teachers Pay and Financial Incentives, School Capital Efficiency, and Higher Education Analysis. • Led development of forecasting model in R to predict total teach pay-bill, and front-end dashboard to support policy, • Built an interactive R-Shiny dashboard to track the rollout of both the pilot and the national Early Career Framework, receiving and In-Year award for outstanding achievement. • Conducted analysis on the impact of national pay systems on teachers labour markets, to provide evidence to regulators. • Led economic and statistical analyses quantifying financial risks across higher education sector.
