As part of the Capital Markets Training Program (CMTP) I completed various intensive training modules on technical topics such as Unix, SQL, Python and Excel, as well as capital markets modules. I was then assigned to a client based KYC project where I worked for the remainder of my time with the company. I was required to conduct CDD and AML checks on many types of legal entities. Not only did this broaden my knowledge of the business world but it also pushed me outside of my comfort zone and my area of expertise, which I had to quickly adapt to. One of my main responsibilities in this role was to ensure that both the existing data and data collected by myself met the client’s quality standards, as it was essential that data were in the correct format to be extracted by downstream systems. Many of my core soft skills were developed in this project as I was required to work both independently and collaborate with others to meet weekly targets and deadlines. Communication was key in this role as it was essential that we, as a team, covered all bases, but did not duplicate work.
