My Work Experience

Where I've interned and worked during my career.

UN Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) | Jul 2023 - Feb 2024

Data Analytics Intern

Updated the Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Funding Dashboard (powered by Microsoft Power BI) to support the Design, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Team (DMEL) within the Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), which is managed by the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) in the DPPA. To better quantify the Fund’s impact, I analyzed all 100+ PBF-funded projects from 2022 and 2023 and thematically/qualitatively coded them by assigning them data tags based on relevant Peacebuilding Priorities and SDG targets covered by each project outcome and weighting each tag based on the funding allocated to each of these outcomes. I also trained new interns on the thematic coding process and created a knowledge document to instill institutional memory in the PBF on effective and efficient thematic coding practices I developed for future coders. The Peacebuilding Priorities Coding System is based on the OECD Development Assistance Committee's Creditor Reporting System and was developed by the Peacebuilding Support Office to address shortcomings in the OECD DAC’s CRS in providing sufficient information on peacebuilding activities in official development assistance (ODA).

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) | Sep 2023 - Dec 2023

Graduate Consultant

My team and I created a database of all U.S. public and private companies that will be impacted by the European Commission's European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) set to take effect beginning in 2024. We were trained on and then collected all relevant data through the Bloomberg Terminal, Refinitiv (LSEG), S&P Capital IQ, and, when necessary, manual data collection through individual Form 10-K's. I then combined and organized all the data into an easy-to-use database in Excel. Additionally, in order to further aid GRI in its targeted stakeholder outreach, we took a sample to analyze and provide estimates for metrics such as GRI compliance by sector and region. Along with the completed database, we created a detailed report with our analysis and the data visualizations I created through Tableau to provide takeaways, trends, and suggestions that we mined from the data. The database and project were completed in order to aid GRI North America in its stakeholder engagement by helping target impacted companies and prepare them to comply through the use of GRI's reporting standards. I participated in this consultancy as part of the Sustainable Investing Research and Consulting course at Columbia SIPA's Sustainable Investing Research Initiative (SIRI).

After initial, small-scale success pioneering social impact bonds (SIBs) in Colombia, the IDB Lab tasked my team with helping them scale Pay-for- Results (i.e. payment upon verification of successful outcomes) development finance in the Latin America and Caribbean region. To do so, we conducted background desk research, fieldwork in Colombia, and dozens of interviews with stakeholders and experts, including senior leadership throughout the IDB Group, the Government of Colombia, bilateral aid agencies, civil society, and academia. We first identified all the known barriers to scaling this kind of finance. We then designed a new financial mechanism, what we coined as an outcomes- linked bond, that addressed all of these barriers to scale by combining the SIB structure with the successful social bond structure of IDB’s EYE Bonds, a results-based financial mechanism. Finally, we had our instrument red-teamed and iterated upon it incrementally. We also created an investor mapping, analyzed potential uses of blockchain technology in the bond, and provided additional engagement strategy and analysis on countries and sectors to pilot this new financial instrument. This project was completed as my team's SIPA Capstone Project.
