Placement Student : Business Support and Development

My role at IBM required a combination of Business and Technical tasks. Other responsibilities as part of my role: • Maintained the Techline community pages accessible to Techline employees globally. • Created a TV Advert which was displayed on all IBM TV’s to market Techline’s services to IBMer’s. • Provided regular support to IBMer’s and Business partners through Techline’s business email address to those who were using Techline’s services or wanted Techline’s support. Responsibilities I took on outside my role: • I was one of the two team leader for a team of six IBM teaching volunteers, who taught Information Technology at the John Keble School. I was responsible for organising our regular meetings geared towards planning lessons and discussing new approaches to meet the needs of the students. I always took a pro-active step to ensure that there were always team members adhered to the rules set for us by StemNet, to ensure that we were able to merge their standards with the beliefs and values of IBM. • Provided one to one relationship to a second year student at Aston who studies Computer Science to guide them with applying to placement opportunities at IBM. Being a mentor has allowed me employ communication and personal skills as well as develop leadership and management qualities. • I took part in the Hybrid Hack based in Hursley in June 2016. I was in a team of four and took on the retail challenge in which we had to come up with a solution for retailers on High Street to be able to invite more and more customers and improve sales and see performance. We had 48 Hours to come up with a solution and presented our idea to the directors in 5mins. The retail director Daniel Bagge was very pleased with our solution and even offered to sponsor our idea.
