ETH Zürich | Jul 2022 - Sep 2022

Amgen Scholar (Research Intern)

Homogeneous Inkjet-assisted Cell Seeding Using Fibrin Inks: - Worked in the Lab for Bone Biomechanics (led by Prof Ralph Müller) with postdoctoral researchers Dr Gian Nutal Schädli and Dr Chris Steffi. - Investigated fibrin-based hydrogel formulations for cell seeding using an inkjet bioprinter. Used a plate reader and a rheometer for analysis. - Modelled fluid dynamics of printing nozzle using MATLAB and data presentation using Python. - Concluded the program with a series of lectures and poster presentations at the Amgen Scholars European Symposium held in Clare College, Cambridge, UK. The ETH Amgen Scholars Program 2022 had an acceptance rate of 3.4%. Fully funded by the Amgen Foundation in collaboration with Harvard University.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

3D Bioprinter Optimisation: - Worked in the Stevens Group (led by Prof Molly Stevens) with postdoctoral researcher, Dr Kai Xie. - Developed custom software to control the movement and extrusion of a modified delta 3D printer. The printer was modified to simulate laparoscopy for the purpose of in-situ in-vivo printing by the addition of a fixed platform and a motor-controlled syringe to extrude GelMA hydrogels. - Wrote WinForms programs (newly-learned C#) to integrate nozzle movement, extrusion, impedance spectroscopy (with the PalmSens4 software development kit), and data gathering/output. - Characterised printed GelMA hydrogel lines to optimise extrusion settings. - Learned and followed wet-lab protocols for handling chemicals, cell culture, and replating.

Manufactured for Surelight, a wireless brake light for bikes. The company represented the UK and was awarded JA Europe Company of the Year 2018. Responsibilities: - Product assembly: PCBs and 3D printed enclosures. - Quality control. - Ensuring production quotas are met.

Quantum Detection - Low-Temperature Characterisation of Single Electron Pump Devices: - Worked in a group with two other students under the supervision of Dr Masaya Kataoka to investigate and gather data on a single-electron device, intended for use in high-precision current measurements. - Used cryogenic techniques to cool the device to extremely low temperatures.
