A student in a full-time 12 week course with over 420 hours of instruction and 5 independent projects. The immersive course provided strong foundations for success in ‌Data Science, opening the door for further self-directed learning. Predicted the World Happiness Score using out of the box available quantitative data, in my final solo 5 week Capstone project. I used Python and Pandas to merge several CSVs into one data frame. Employed various imputation techniques and standardisation on my data. Subsequently, I applied several regression models (linear and tree) before optimising them through K-fold, Grid Search and Boosting to generate the best prediction of our Happiness Score. R2 scores were above 90% for all optimised models. Random Forest Regression performed best. Using scikit-learn’s inbuilt functions, we visualised and analysed feature importances. We found that 70% of the variance in our target variable could be explained by three features of either qualitative or quantitative data.
