Sciensano | Apr 2018 - May 2024

Scientist

BELNIC (Belgium National Influenza Centre), Respiratory Virus unit, Viral Diseases service. We are part of WHO GISRS and ECDC EISN. With our colleagues from the Epidemiology scientific direction, we are involved in the seasonal influenza surveilllance through a network of GP (for Influenza-Like Illness, ILI) and a network of 6 hospitals (for Sereve Acute Respiratory Infections, SARI). Other hospitals can also send us samples, especially for suspicion of zoonotic influenza or MERS-coronavirus infection. Research activities focus on pandemic preparedness.

Senior Postdoct / Chargé de Recherche (contractuel)

In Dr Vignuzzi's unit "Viral Populations and Pathogenesis" (PVP) and Prof van der Werf's unit "Molecular Genetics of RNA Viruses" (GMVR), to implement research projects on the quasispecies nature of Influenza viruses. Projects aim at studying the intrinsic heterogeneity of Influenza viruses infecting humans and their polymerase functionning. I also take part in teaching activities at ETSL (Professional License), supervising practicals in molecular biology and delivering a lecture on recent applications in molecular biology, focusing on deep-sequencing technology and micro-arrays.

University of Warwick | Dec 2008 - Sep 2009

Research Fellow

Dr Emma Anderson's lab: the main project concerned HIV1 gag protein and the regulation of its translation. I took part in two side projects: one on the comparison of HIV1 and HIV2 pathogenesis, the other on the translation context of the PB1 segment of influenzavirus. Also teaching activities as supervisor for practicals on SDS-PAGE and Western-Blot (including report marking).

Safety (ANSES) | Jun 2007 - Nov 2008

Project Manager

French agency for food safety (AFSSA-Maisons Alfort): I accompanied the implementation of a quality assurance system (according to ISO 17025 norm) for the reference diagnostic activities of the Virology unit (UMR 1161), which is National Reference Laboratory for Foot-and-mouth disease and similar vesicular diseases, for Bluetongue and African Horse Sickness, and for West- Nile. I also took part in the setting-up of a diagnostic laboratory network for Bluetongue serotype-8 RT-qPCR following the rapid spread of the epizootics in Europe. Also teaching activities at the ETSL (professional license), as supervisor for practicals on tissue culture and immunology (including presentation and report marking).

Institut Pasteur | Nov 2005 - May 2007

Postdoctoral scientist

Collaborative project with the French agency for food safety (AFSSA- Ploufragan) to in-vitro evaluate of the zoonotic potential of animal influenza viruses (avian and swine) by studying the growth and replication abilities of human, avian and porcine H3N2, H1N1 and H1N2 viruses on different cellular types in various culture conditions. I shared my time between the "Molecular Genetics of RNA Viruses" unit at the Pasteur Institute and the "Avian and Rabbit Virology Immunology and Parasitology" unit at the AFSSA.

CNRS | Sep 2005 - Oct 2005

Postdoctoral scientist

Agreement between funding body and CNRS was, in the end, not signed and consequently, fundings were cancelled.

Together with 2 other groups, the Cambridge site was mainly involved in the animal work, in the production of recombinant adenoviruses and vaccinia viruses, in the evaluation of the cellular immune responses of the sheep, and in the dispatching of other samples to partners in Iceland, Italy, France and Spain.

Safety (ANSES) | Feb 2000 - Dec 2002
