Senior Cost Engineer - Interior Trim

• Responsibilities mainly as above, with a different commodity set including instrument panels, door panels, veneers, decorative trim, interior lighting. • Headed up a team project to standardise the estimating process within the interiors department. This resulted in a document, still in use today, which congregates all internal technical knowledge, supplier based information and commercial data. This is a live document which is now the go-to for the interiors team for all estimates, driving consistency, credibility, and improved confidence within the team whilst being an invaluable part of succession planning. • Building relationships with the supply base, gaining their understanding and trust throughout the cost estimating, and commercial negotiation process. This allows the supplier’s technical information to be leveraged toward technical cost saving opportunities. • Took on responsibility for Veneers & Decorative Trim with very little hand over. Gaining technical information from both the internal engineering team, and through external plant visits, this culminated in the creation of a decorative trim cost model, which drove the time required to provide detailed estimates from 3 days to 3 hours. The model is still in use today, and provides succession planning benefits, along with time savings, and a solid consistent base from which to improve from. • Investigated ‘Natural Fibre’ components, a new technology available for interior components. Led the drive within the team to research the benefits and drawbacks of the technology, including tech shows, and supplier visits across Europe. Provided data backed recommendations for the implementation strategy of Natural Fibre components into JLR vehicles.
