I developed recombinant E. coli strains for the production of xylitol from mixtures of 5-carbon sugars. Work included: - Construction of vectors to screen genes for optimal performance - Construction of a temperature-inducible expression system in E. coli - Implementation of fermentation engineering strategies for process improvement Although I was employed as a technician, I took on responsibilities beyond what would normally be expected of this role, such as literature review, project planning, and writing project summaries.
