My Work Experience

Where I've interned and worked during my career.

ADM | Sep 2022 - Present

Associate Fermentation Scientist

Novozymes | Mar 2021 - Jul 2021

Process Engineer II

Bien-Etre Labs | Sep 2020 - Dec 2020

Research Scientist

Sensient Technologies Corporation | Feb 2017 - Mar 2020

Innovation Scientist

I was happy to contribute my experience in microbiology and fermentation science within Sensient's Global Bionutrients division. My work mainly involved formulating solutions for microbial growth. I also enjoyed using my eclectic knowledge of biology to support researchers in other business units.

Pacific Ethanol, Inc. | Oct 2014 - Jan 2017

Laboratory Analyst

diversified fuel ethanol company. My work included: - Tracking down microbial contaminants in fermentation processes and co- products - Fermentation troubleshooting and data analysis - Performing routine QA/QC procedures

Marquis Energy | Apr 2012 - Aug 2014

Contract Research Associate

My work at Marquis focused on fuel ethanol process development and optimization, specifically: - Responsiblity for flask fermentation experiments from conception to data analysis - Developing SOPs for lab procedures such as DDGS residual starch and flask ferms - Providing microbiology and fermentation science training to operators

zuChem | Feb 2012 - Apr 2012

Research Associate

At zuChem I continued to work on xylitol production from recombinant E coli. In this case, engineering E. coli to produce xylitol from glycerol, an inexpensive and abundant byproduct of biodiesel production.

USDA-ARS | Aug 2009 - Feb 2012

Biological Science Technician

I developed recombinant E. coli strains for the production of xylitol from mixtures of 5-carbon sugars. Work included: - Construction of vectors to screen genes for optimal performance - Construction of a temperature-inducible expression system in E. coli - Implementation of fermentation engineering strategies for process improvement Although I was employed as a technician, I took on responsibilities beyond what would normally be expected of this role, such as literature review, project planning, and writing project summaries.

Kent State University | Jan 2007 - Jan 2009

Teaching Assistant

I taught lab sections for: General Microbiology, Invertebrate Zoology, and Biological Foundations
