Wellframe, a HealthEdge Company | Sep 2022 - Present

Data Scientist

• Developed SQL and dbt queries in cloud computing (GCP) data warehouses (300M+ records) to model, aggregate and validate health insurance claims data, study data and proprietary Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) healthcare and business data in compliance with HIPAA regulations, for analytics projects by data teams. • Improved customer growth 10% YoY by creating Python scripts to perform exploratory data analysis (EDA), preprocessing, advanced statistical & machine learning (ML) modeling, to predict health outcomes, evaluate the effects of health interventions on preventable hospitalizations, medical expense reductions and cost savings; and enhance the product features of a SaaS healthcare technology platform servicing Fortune 500 customers in the healthcare industry. • Built and deployed end-to-end machine learning modeling pipelines, involved in all phases including model training, evaluation, versioning, deployment, and monitoring using AWS, MetaFlow and Kubernetes clusters. • Developed an award-winning cloud-based (GCP) summarization artificial intelligence (AI) prototype to streamline clinician workflows, resulting in a 20% decrease in the onboarding transition window. • Leveraged version control (Git) and Agile processes with Clinical SMEs, Product, Engineering and Data teams to define, review and implement analytic requirements such as clinical ontologies (ICD10, CPT etc), data quality & warehousing, key business metrics, and experiment design. • Accrued ~$1300 in cost savings per member by using dashboards, presentations, and other data visualization techniques to communicate actionable insights and opportunities to cross-functional business stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge, to inform population segmentation, quality improvement and medical expense reduction initiatives. • Collaborated with 30+ cross-functional business stakeholders to develop business questions, navigate resource constraints, as well as implement and iterate complex analytics solutions to advance customer objectives and fuel operational excellence. • Enhanced project reproducibility by documenting project requirements, assumptions, methodologies & strategies compliant with enterprise-wide and customer-specific standards.

Research Fellow

• Designed, implemented, and managed analytical plans including experiment design and statistical methodologies, for a year-long grant-funded ($6,000) quantitative research project extracting, aggregating, and validating electronic health records and other anonymized real-world data sources to evaluate the effects of labor and healthcare regulations on selected health outcomes. • Created R and SAS scripts to implement experiment design, data management, EDA, simulation & advanced statistical modeling of anonymized real-world data for multiple NIH grant-funded health outcomes research projects, e.g., clinical trials on chronic kidney disease and tobacco cessation in Medicare populations with a 15% lowering in smoking rates among the intervention group. • Developed Stata, Python and Stella Architect scripts to perform exploratory data analysis (EDA), simulation and advanced statistical modeling of aggregated demographic and health outcomes data (8M+ records). • Led a team of 5 Data Science Fellows in the building and delivery of an award-winning data product using Python scripts to web scrape & aggregate unstructured data (100K+ records), perform EDA and use machine learning techniques (predictive modeling & natural language processing) to predict health outcomes and public sentiment towards healthcare regulations. • Queried SQL databases for participant data sharing with external healthcare & CRO partners, to enable the delivery of clinical interventions. • Designed interactive visualizations in Tableau and Stella Architect to communicate research insights to diverse stakeholders and enable regulatory teams experiment with and deploy actionable recommendations. • Collaborated with 15+ academic research and CRO teams to develop analysis plans and novel clinical ontologies, as well as co-author 5 peer- reviewed scientific publications and communicate publication-ready methodologies and results at 4 scientific conferences. • Designed and deployed training tools to enhance analytics literacy among healthcare partners. • Enhanced team knowledge management and project reproducibility by curating and documenting Git repositories, project requirements, assumptions, methodologies, and implementation strategies compliant with grant and customer standards. • Provided 15 graduate students with individualized coaching on statistical methodologies.

FHI 360 | Jun 2018 - Jul 2019

Technical Officer

• Provided expertise to meet the analytical needs of a multi-country public-private healthcare partnership with academic research, non-profit, and private sector stakeholders. • Implemented analytical plans including data collection, data management, data manipulation and data analysis of secondary data, website traffic data and marketing data. • Designed visualizations to communicate research insights to diverse stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge. • Designed & built knowledge bases of medical ontologies, tool kits & learning modules to disseminate healthcare innovations. • Collaborated with 12+ partnership stakeholders to co-author healthcare research indexes, literature reviews and a technical handbook, and deliver 5 learning events to train healthcare partners on novel healthcare innovations.
