Akasa Foundation | Mar 2018 - Apr 2018

English Language Teacher

I gained strong teamwork and leadership skills over the course of several months spent as a teaching volunteer in Tabanan. This required teaching my own classes of 20-30 children, and also a leadership role in overseeing the teaching performance at two local schools. Aside from strengthening my public speaking and interpersonal skills, the role was extremely humbling and helped me further understand my privileges.

The Future Brunels Programme | Sep 2010 - Aug 2015

Engineering Programme

I was one of twelve students from four schools selected to be a ‘Young Brunel’ in an ambitious education programme which ran over five years. This course taught me to be curious, confident and greatly encouraged me to succeed in my degree - with opportunities ranging from discussions with leading STEM experts at companies such as Babcock, Rolls-Royce and Renishaw, to presenting at the Festival of Education in the final year. This greatly enhanced my verbal communication skills, in the context of both my peers and a diverse range of industry professionals. In addition, I constructed monthly reports on the progress of the course which strengthened my written communication skills.

Babcock International Group | May 2014 - Jun 2014

Engineering Work Placement

Prior to university, I undertook a work placement at Babcock International in Bristol where I spent time shadowing an industry professional; I gained insight into their day-to-day tasks and responsibilities, and attended team building and introductory workshops. The meaningful work and inspiring environment that I observed at Babcock greatly encouraged me to tailor my school study towards a career in STEM.
