My Work Experience

Where I've interned and worked during my career.

Embark Veterinary | Oct 2022 - Present

Senior Scientist

I am always optimizing our dog Age Test while also working in New Products Validation.

Embark Veterinary | Oct 2021 - Present

Research Scientist II in Epigenetics

I created the QA/QC standards and statistical models used in Embark's best-in-class dog Age Test. While doing so, I worked cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and CS to launch the MVP and General Access tests.

Cornell University | Jul 2017 - Oct 2021

Postdoctoral Fellow

As a member of the Lis lab, I researched glucocorticoid regulation of transcription, enhancer biology, and mechanistic roles of transcription factors. I managed multiple collaborations with external research groups, and I contributed to writing grants that funded our work.

UCLA | Jan 2016 - Jun 2017

Postdoctoral Researcher

transcriptional splicing in macrophage cells. I gained skills in culturing immune cells, genome editing with CRISPR-Cas9, and analyzing alternative splicing in genome-wide data. My advisers were Tracy Johnson and Alexander Hoffmann.

Cornell University | Aug 2009 - Nov 2015

PhD Candidate

Studied global regulation of post-transcriptional gene expression. I developed a cell-based reporter assay to measure the effect of small sequences in human 3'UTRs that alter protein production. I also investigated roles of microRNAs in regulating how CD8+ T cells respond to infection.

Cornell University | Jan 2011 - Jan 2015

Guest Lecturer

I have taught in the following classes: Development & Evolution, Cornell University -- microRNAs in Development and Evolution (2011, 2013, 2015) Functional Organization of Eukaryotic Cells, Cornell University -- mRNA Localization (2012, 2014)

Ithaca College | Jan 2013 - Jan 2013

Guest Lecturer

I guest lectured in the Biochemistry II course. My class was titled, "Post- transcriptional gene regulation."

Cornell University | Jan 2011 - May 2011

Teaching Assistant for Development and Evolution

As the TA for this course, I prepared and gave a lecture on the evolution of microRNAs, held exam review sessions, helped write exams, and graded assignments.

NIEHS | Jan 2007 - Jan 2009

Undergraduate researcher

Investigated mechanisms for rapid activation of neuronal gene expression needed for storing long-term memories

North Carolina State University | May 2006 - Dec 2006

Undergraduate researcher

I found single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the IM10 gene that correlated with alcohol sensitivity in D. melanogaster

Summer College in Biotechnology and Life Sciences | Jun 2006 - Aug 2006

Teaching Assistant

I taught basic molecular biology lab techniques to high school students
