SAR Data Scientist

Dr. Falah Fakhri is an accomplished Earth observation scientist specializing in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Optical data. With extensive experience, he leverage Deep Learning (DL) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques for environmental monitoring, disaster management, and more. Dr. Fakhri’s innovative methodologies enhance satellite imagery interpretation, supporting decision-making globally. Research Description The most desired approach I’m very much interested in is applying Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL), the new world I accessed more than four years ago, to find out the most probability of recurrence of the damage magnitude, using open software python. Additionally, I focus on land use and land cover change alongside the time-series of any event. My recent research project, flood extent detection in South New Wales: Eastern Australia, is under publication process. This study applies DL using open-source software python, TensorFlow, and Sentinel-1 data to find out the change in flood extensions over two years. Space data democratization is also an interesting research path to unify many resources into one easy-to-read and understand product. The soil and water science field is my scientific backbone, as I completed my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in this field. The combination of remote sensing and model building was a major part of my research. Obtaining a Ph.D. from the geography department in Radar remote sensing, SAR Interferometry, and InSAR has opened horizons and strengthened my scientific path to fulfill any position globally.
