In this portfolio I led an analytics and modelling team focused on electricity sector transitions. Building a multi-disciplinary team of energy economists, data scientists and engineers, I investigated the impact of renewable energy and digital technologies on the electricity sector. In addition, I collaborated with key stakeholders to translate findings and insights into recommendations for decision makers and policymakers in industry and government, in KSA and the wider GCC region.

I was tasked with setting up an analytics centre of excellence in support of the Life & Pensions business unit, our focus being on products and business functions including marketing, pricing, risk, claims, fraud, operations and strategy. During this time, I built a core team of four highly skilled and business minded data scientists and gained approval from the board and key business stakeholders for a prioritised 3-year programme of 10 advanced analytics projects. These focused on revenue growth and identifying new business opportunities and were successfully delivered within time and budget.

Senior Manager, Analytics & Modelling, Group Risk

I directed the development and delivery of internal risk models including Capital, Credit Cycle, Macro-economic Models and Stress Testing, managing a team of analysts, modellers and temporary staff. I was able to design and implement a tool forecasting income and loss across the entire Retail banking book over a 5-year horizon, which was used extensively for regulatory reporting and product management. Furthermore, I successfully led modelling resource (including five internal and seven contractors), and managed relationships with Programme Sponsors in Risk, Finance, Corporate Treasury and IT Functions.

Expertise Leader, Mathematics & Bioinformatics - Global R&D Centre

Recruited as R&D Project Leader, I was promoted to Expertise Leader, Mathematics & Bioinformatics in 2008. In this position I led the global R&D mathematical modelling team (10FTE), to model, visualise and predict outcomes of consumer and market insights in order to develop new ways of connecting with consumers and retailers. I served as a subject matter expert on advanced modelling techniques located at the intersection of mathematical and behavioural sciences and spearheaded group projects and programmes, managing the associated budgets. In all these endeavours I directed teams, cultivating talent and developing the skills of scientists and modelling experts. A highlight of this career chapter was leading the development of two successfully deployed advanced commercial analytics projects, elevating group profile with CEO and Board and winning a Unilever Global R&D Award in 2010.

R&D Scientist / Marketing Strategy Manager

Initially hired as a R&D Scientist, I was promoted to the position of Market Strategy Manager in 2003 and developed a strategic marketing plan for the company’s CRM technology business. Other accomplishments during that time included:  Providing market analysis for the BT Retail Board and creating a detailed strategic plan via 12-month secondment role in the BT ICT Strategy Department.  Delivering a comprehensive strategic marketing plan for £180m programme, facilitating development of product propositions for contact centre services.  Significantly improving internal communication between R&D and marketing / sales staff, developing an extensive network within the company.  Recognised for exceptional performance with promotion to Principal Scientist, I was identified as key talent and granted the opportunity to embark on a company-funded MBA degree.
