Visiting Researcher/ Intern

During this internship, I enhanced my bioinformatic skills and dealt with microbial genomes. I analyzed hundreds of bacterial genomes and utilized some aligner tools, e.g. BWA, hashing method, etc. I also learned how to use Docker, AWS, etc. Interestingly, I had to program with R and Perl at the beginning and created some bash commands to support the workflow construction and analysis. I used Python as my basis programming language for data analysis. I also did some quality control regarding their software (Tuberculini).

I am joining a collaborative project between Microfluidics Research Group and Bioinformatics Research Group in Taltech (Tallinn University of Technology). Initially, my study will cover droplet analysis, microbial heteroresistance up to single-cell analysis. However, life happened and now, I am focusing on developing accessible workflow for droplet-based experiment. I built different pipelines for image based droplet analysis and built user-friendly web analytical application to help researcher with no programming background to perform such experiment and analysis.

In this event, I was invited to attend a workshop about how the biotechnology can be used to make our own garden. Based on the Japanese concept, the garden itself could be anything. Even, an inanimate object can be the starting point of the garden concept. It was interesting because I had a chance to collaborate with artists to make the actual artwork and was exhibited the art in a museum.
