Senior Software Engineer

I led the discovery, design, and implementation of complex data solutions, primarily using Microsoft Azure for data engineering and Snowflake for data modelling and compute. My approach was to provide deep collaboration with clients, ensuring that solutions meet their unique needs. I worked with senior teams to understand their business goals and designed and developed engineering patterns, database models and visualisations to align with their desired outcomes. Major Contributions: • Global Travel Company: Created continuous data pipelines from HR, Finance and operational systems, constructing a foundational data model to produce daily Key Performance Indicators. Designed an Excel bowling card solution to provide a helicopter view for senior leaders to perform KPI evaluation. Evolved the solution to Power BI to enable self-service reporting and deeper analysis across marketing and finance departments, to support enhanced decision making. • Technology Provider: Established a data quality framework to reconcile customer data between systems. Increased customer matching by developing fuzzy look-up and string-matching solutions. In matching 90%+ financial transactions correctly, this enabled the development of Annual Recurring Revenue models and other subscription-based metrics such as Customer Lifetime Value and monthly recurring revenue tracking. • Private Healthcare Organisation: Established a Snowflake data warehouse solution for over 1M patients, ingesting data from multiple SalesForce instances and applying a role-based access control framework. Established new data quality processes and developed a tag-based data masking technique and policies to anonymise data for compliance and security, enabling 3rd party suppliers to consume data with a high degree of trust.

Senior Developer

Reporting to the CIO, I was responsible for solving complex data issues, integrating disparate systems, and delivering data insights to various leadership teams within UK, US, Canadian and Australian territories. I achieved this through discovery, design, and development of software solutions, using Microsoft Azure Cloud Services wherever possible, to centralise data and reduce localised server infrastructure. As part of the global transformation programme, I successfully delivered 3rd party web service integrations, enabling horizontal systems to operate seamlessly across the group, for example the Workday HR system for 5,000+ employees that synchronises employees and time-off with both Oracle and SQL Server ERP systems. I was instrumental in organising internal engagement processes, and by applying a continuous improvement methodology, it enabled the team to grow in efficiency and exceed our customers’ expectations. Major Contributions: • Development of Power BI Embedded, providing data insights and reducing Licensing costs. • Delivered an HR Ticketing App using Power Platform, Teams and SPFx to create a globally consistent service. • Designed Business to Business Web App to enable multi-tenant onboarding through automated invitations.

Systems Architect

Enabling new capabilities for the organisation through in-house development and integrations with chosen technology partners. Focussed on improving scalability and system quality as the business looked to acquire market share and gain new territories. I was the senior technical resource for the group-wide Digital Transformation programme. Major Contributions: • Performed IT due diligence and integrated multiple systems when Millbrook purchased their ERP system from the supplier in 2016. Documented the system and migrated all services in-house • Recruited a new technical team, creating role profiles, building processes, and implementing new software tools to enable in-house software development using Agile principles • Created the Disaster Recovery environment for all critical Apps and databases, working with IaaS providers • Redesigned monolithic back-end systems to a microservice architecture, accelerating application development and improving quality through unit testing • Successfully redesigned a stock take application and improved purchasing data to provide timely and accurate reporting upon gross margin • Removed a dependency on Windows Mobile by developing new web services and creating a new scalable ledger process for 300+ technicians. Designed a new Android application built using Xamarin C# • Created a responsive web portal for service users, and developed conversational SMS bot services to offload calls from traditional telephony contact centres After Millbrook was acquired by a private investment firm in July 2019, I was tasked with recruiting a new Management Information team and redeveloping the data warehouse. As a result, new insights were delivered to the Senior Management Team by embedding Microsoft Power BI visualisations into our custom web applications. By leveraging Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate (Flow) Azure services I was able to provide more efficient financial and risk reporting.

Working with the Technical Director to advance internal systems and processes, with a view to improving contracted revenue and the overall client experience for managed service customers. Assisted technical architects in performing IT due diligence work and assessing any operational risks involved with client acquisitions. I led the planning and implementation of domain upgrades, server/storage migrations, data warehousing, unified communications, application delivery platforms and wired and wireless networks. After managing such work, I developed new technical expertise in server virtualisation, Cloud infrastructures, application delivery and networking. This enabled me to work as a technical consultant to deliver engineering and project tasks myself. In addition, I developed the internal systems and reporting functions and managed the quality of the service, ensuring effective prioritisation and control of the IT environments in our care. I managed related policies, processes and procedures, working closely with relationship managers and service delivery managers to continually improve our services and maximise the value of our technical offerings.

ICT Project Coordinator

Short Term Contract. Responsible for the coordinated management of multiple IT projects to achieve the technology vision of the Senior Management Team and School Governors. The programme of work included the replacement of fibre cabling and networking, physical to virtual server migration, centralised storage and creating a Disaster Recovery environment. I documented the existing infrastructure, highlighting and prioritising major concerns throughout the estate. During the Year 1 implementation I managed the critical path, coordinating all tasks involving suppliers and their deliverables, providing highlight reports to senior users and the project sponsor. The main outcome of the Year 1 solution was a 10GB fibre backbone throughout the central teaching areas and a new Disaster Recovery server room, delivering full network, server and storage redundancy.

Basel II Systems Specialist GRCB International Risk

Seconded to Barclays Africa & Middle East to manage the migration of the Emerging Markets Credit Risk Regulatory Reporting project, working in Johannesburg for 4 months and London for 9 months. Major Contributions: Took sole technical responsibility for the system from the African development team and consistently improved processing speed and data quality month on month. This was achieved by developing new software tools, improving server processes (such as Stored Procedure logic) and maintaining strong relationships with the Country-specific technical and business line stakeholders during each rigorous monthly reporting cycle. Supported the Business Risk Analysts and Finance Managers in the UK and UAE by developing ad hoc reports and implementing system updates to cater for the changing dynamics of the business and also improving all reporting needs across the different time zones by adding automated processes and managing system incidents in real-time. Successfully project managed the subsequent system handover to UAE and India by recruiting and training new resources, writing training documentation, creating test environments, delivering immediate support for parallel/live runs, and decommissioning the UK system.
