United States Steel - Minntac | Nov 2019 - Present

Area Manager - Concentrator

Lead a team of eleven managers and 153 represented employees that are responsible for operational, mechanical and electrical execution for Minntac’s iron ore concentrator. Support the effort to achieve zero injuries by engaging the workforce, promoting a safe work environment and identifying opportunities to increase the safety of specific tasks or conditions. Develop and manage an annual controllable spend budget of $100M. Directed the implementation of a processing KPI dashboard to assist with diagnosing and improving upon suboptimal productivity and recovery performance. Directing the implementation an advanced analytics program for the facility, focusing on process modeling, constraint analysis and optimizing unit operations performance.

Manager - Operational Excellence

Manage a team of nine (9) process engineers at two (2) iron ore mining facilities. Lead and manage large capital process improvements in excess of $10M in CAPEX expenditure. Coach team members and project leaders on process improvement principles and tools. Lead biweekly KPI performance reviews with technical, operating and maintenance staff. Experience utilizing plant performance capabilities and maintenance schedules to develop operating production plans.

Process Engineer

Contributed technical and analytical expertise to the operational and maintenance departments with regard to the concentrating, agglomerating and pelletizing processes. Implemented operational changes that balanced the horsepower within the plant and resulted in a 6.7% gain in plant productivity with no CAPEX investment. Evaluated and installed a $5M capital project that improved energy efficiency and increased line productivity by 12%. Designed and built an advanced process control system that increased process stability, resulting in $1M in electrical and consumable savings. Implemented a visual factory solution, utilizing PI ProcessBook, that communicated KPI data related to productivity, efficiency and quality.
