Tutor in Ecological Economics

This course explores how the ecological economics approach and tools can contribute to the effective and sustainable management of natural resources, the economy and other human systems. Case studies are reviewed together with various major contemporary theories, models and approaches for the economic analysis, assessment, and management of the sources of environmental impacts. There is also a strong focus upon strategic economic, social, urban and industry policy, and production and consumption solutions for sustainability. I assumed the tutorials in Ecological Economics at the Gold Coast Campus and assisted Dr. Peter Daniels, who was the course convenor.

The PhD “Valuation and mapping of cultural ecosystem services: New perspectives on the substitution effect in stated preference studies” carried out at KU Leuven is actually done in close collaboration with the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO). At VITO, I contributed to several consultancy projects on the valuation of freshwater ecosystems (rivers and river banks, lakes, ponds) and terrestrial ecosystems (forests, heath, natural grasslands). I specialised on cultural ecosystem services influenced by spatial components, in particular outdoor recreation and amenity.
