Research Intern

To work on the programmable logic controller (PLC) programming for microfluidic pumps and valves, which is a part of the deliverables for the national environment agency (NEA) funded project “Portable Micro Total Analysis System for Rapid on-site Determination of Environmental TCLP Metals in Waste Materials”. In this project, I used both the Visual Basic Language to create an interactive interface and Ladder Language for PLC control, then integrate them together to manipulate the electric pulses (on and off outputs) from the PLC to control several valves and pumps in a flexible sequence, for the purpose of controlling and actuating the running of different kinds of solutions in a microfluidic chip. I fully completed the assigned tasks, and my work was successfully demonstrated in the NEA’s project review and obtained satisfactory feedback from NEA according to my supervisor, Dr. Donna Xiaodong Zhou.

Student Internship

The internship covers the following courses including Introduction to Civil Aviation Maintenance (42 hours), Aircraft Standard Practice (28 hours), Aircraft Mechanical/ Powerplant Systems Familiarisation (70 hours) and Aircraft Maintenance Task - Mechanical (63 hours). I am certified with the Certificate of Customised Aircraft Maintenace Training Course - Mechanics. This experience increased my exposure to the Overhaul Repair Organisation and improved my mechanical skills in aircraft maintenance. It showed the requirement to be a Certified Licensed Aircraft Engineer, which gives me the guideline for becoming an LAE. It was a memorable experience as it was my first time standing beside different types of commercial aircraft such as the A340 and B777. It also strengthened the teamwork as we were required to do an inspection on the aircraft components including the engines, landing gear, and fan blades.
