Advisors: Prof. Ben Zhong Tang, Prof. Zheng Zhao Project 1: Activatable Fluorescent Probes with Aggregation-Induced Emission (AIE) Characteristics for Cancer Theranostics ○ Established novel fluorescent probes for tumor cells by targeting nitroreductases (NTRs) and mitochondria. ○ Engineered the probes with AIE functional groups to obviate aggregation- caused quenching (ACQ). ○ Examined optical properties, in vitro response to NTR, cellular uptake, and ROS generation efficiency by UV-Vis and Fluorescent spectrometry. ○ Supported by the 17th - 21st Undergraduate Research Awards, CUHK(SZ). Project 2: Multi-stimuli-Responsive AIE Nanogels for Precise Synergistic Tumor Therapy ○ Developed AIE-based functionalized hydrogels that integrate active thermo- and pH-responsive drug release, NIR light-triggered hyperthermia, and in vivo fluorescence/photothermal imaging. ○ Applied trojan-horse-based concept to homologous targeting tumors by cloaking isolated tumor cell membranes onto the surface of functionalized hydrogels to maximize tumor-killing activity.
