This 100-hour placement was part of a summer internship programme facilitated by the Office of Career Services at the University of Sheffield and the National Technician Development Centre (NTDC). - Identified relevant data from the NTDC’s Technician Survey, standardised data sets from 10 universities, and merged data in an easily accessible format. - Used text mining techniques in R to examine survey data to identify themes and trends, both across the sector as a whole and within cross-sections of the technician population. - Used themes and trends to examine existing training and development courses to identify which might be most relevant and useful, and where training and development gaps may be apparent. - Prepared a report explaining and synthesising the results obtained from text mining. Additionally, suggested recommendations for future data collection an analysis.
