Content & Product Data Specialist II

I led the sports vertical for the Knowledge Graph Ops team, worked on strategic projects and became a people manager. Throughout 2021, I continued to own high-profile sporting events like EURO 2020 while supporting the previous sports vertical lead on coverage of the 2020 Olympic Games. In 2022, the priority was the 2022 FIFA World Cup. I collaborated with our Media Insights & Analysis team to build a self- serve Google Studio dashboard, worked with Getty Images and Sportradar and helped to guide Curation content strategy for the competition. I also supported Twitter’s Global Participation initiative to take cricket experiments live in product for users in India. As the knowledge graph product matured, I assembled a team to support the increasing maintenance it required. Furthermore, I designed and implemented an internal data review process that was later cemented as a run the business task. I also drove an org- wide experiment focused on breaking news that required coordination of a large number of Curation members, in addition to stakeholders such as Trust & Safety. I wrote a DACI and, later, a retrospective in collaboration with analysts. This laid the groundwork for implementing a streamlined version of the experiment permanently. This project was key in helping the knowledge graph product achieve ambitious annotation coverage targets. After participating in many panels, I was the hiring manager as we recruited a data specialist to launch the German market. I managed their priorities, workload and sought out development opportunities for them. Through regular 1-1s and quarterly reviews, I guided a high performer through a period of significant uncertainty in the business. In this role, I also began to develop more technical skills such as writing and editing basic SQL queries and running scripts in terminal. I frequently presented in org and location all hands and participated in multiple Hackweek experiments.

Content & Product Data Specialist I

Upon promotion to this role, I took on many additional responsibilities, most notably driving my own projects, while transitioning some tasks to multiple junior colleagues who I onboarded and mentored. I was the sole driver of a top-priority project for the knowledge graph, Topics and New User Experience products - to review the largest metadata field in the knowledge graph. I created a review roadmap and set of metadata standards; iterated a review workflow in collaboration with data analysts using SQL; coordinated 11 language specialists working across nine languages via Jira; and reviewed output weekly to incorporate stakeholder feedback. Under my leadership, the team oversaw the review of tens of thousands of data points in just two months to support machine learning engineers building recommendation models, as well as providing clarity for potential customers internally regarding the metadata in question. I authored a bespoke new hire documentation for the Knowledge Graph Ops team that was used frequently as we grew rapidly in headcount from 13 to 29. This resource significantly improved onboarding across the global team, allowing us to grow more efficiently. I also partook in multiple hiring panels. I led an initiative collaborating with Twitter Services and Trust & Safety teams to remove discriminatory content from live Events timelines. I also supported a rapid expansion across Topics in over ten languages across a variety of verticals. This involved the localisation of semantic queries and metadata, as well as researching verticals such as science, finance and more. Throughout this work, I built and maintained a taxonomy of all Twitter data. As part of the Topic expansion efforts, I was required to participate in an on-call schedule to rapidly respond to user feedback, both externally and internally, and iterate on Human-In-The-Loop models. I led experimentation on improving Twitter Trend Topic Proofing in collaboration with Curation stakeholders.
