Computational Thinking Tutor and Ambassador

A member of the PACT group of Maynooth University's Department of Computer Science. The group develops resources for primary and secondary schools in Ireland to help them teach topics in computer science and computational thinking. Many of the resources are based off of the International Bebras Computing Challenge. Roles: - Aided in the creation (problems and lesson plans) for two workbooks. One is aimed at students aged 6 to 8. The other is aimed at students aged 8 to 12. - Participate in visits to schools to do a "Computational Thinking Obstacles Course" with students. - Develop holiday themed tasks (Halloween, Valentine's Day etc.) for students and teachers. - Participate in workshops with teachers to gather feedback from them on the resources we create. - Develop new problems to submit to the International Bebras Computing Challenge. - Alter existing Bebras tasks to make them suitable for an Irish audience. - Classify existing tasks based on their computational thinking topic. - Create graphics for tasks using Inkscape. Some Results: - One problem I created was shortlisted as one of the 18 nominees in the Best Task competition at the 2022 International Bebras Task Workshop. - Large engagement has been seen with the holiday tasks e.g. St. Valentine's Day 2022 & St Patrick's Day 2022 tasks have been engaged with by at least 1739 and 1575 students respectively.

SPUR Intern

Participated in Maynooth's 6 week Summer Programme for Undergraduate Researchers (SPUR). My project was to see if it was possible to identify a relationship between stock market changes and compression algorithms. Versions of the Lempel-Zip and bzip2 compression algorithms were coded up in Java and ran on stock market data as part of the project.
