My Work Experience

Where I've interned and worked during my career.

Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München | Jul 2018 - Dec 2022

Bioinformatician

Processed, analysed and interpreted large-scale tuberculosis transcriptomics data resulting from the MAMS study, a multi-arm, multi-site longitudinal trial Worked on several datasets involving low input transcriptomics data, a mix between scRNA and RNA-seq, involving using statistics from both methods Designed an R workflow that speeds up the processing of peptide array analysis Was the primary bioinformatician within the division of infectious diseases and set up the bioinformatics environment. Consulting with other teams to aid in experimental design

Bioinformatics PhD Researcher

Independently designed, supervised and trained final year undergraduate students with their thesis research projects from initiation to submission Maintained strict working conditions as per Category 2 and Category 3 Containment Laboratory rules Successfully collaborated with the US-FDA in order to achieve genome sequencing of approximately 300 bacterial genomes

University College Dublin | Sep 2013 - Aug 2016

Postgraduate Demonstrator

Postgraduate demonstrator on a range of undergraduate modules across the UCD Schools of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science and Medicine and Medical Science. This included a Bioinformatics module where I aided the professors in laboratory practicals explaining the various principles of sequence analysis, multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic tree construction and molecular sequence database searching. I also demonstrated basic laboratory skills including an introduction to common microbial techniques including basic aseptic and immunological techniques, staining of bacterial cultures, Pharmaceutical and Food Microbiology and aided in the creation of wiki projects describing an area of molecular genetics using HTML. Demonstrator on the following UCD undergraduate modules Bioinformatics Biomolecular Lab Skills 2 Molecular Genetics and Biotech Pharmaceutical and Food Microbiology

University College Dublin | Jan 2013 - Mar 2013

PhD Researcher in the UCD Centre for Food Safety

Completed a three month rotation project while gaining microbiological skills Teamwork with an existing lab member led to the publication of scientific paper in Applied Environmental Microbiology

University College Dublin | Oct 2012 - Jan 2013

PhD Researcher in the Higgins Laboratory

Completed a three month rotation project while gaining skills in the use of RNA-seq and transcriptional analysis

Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) | Jun 2011 - Aug 2011

ICHEC Summer Scholarship

Worked on a project entitled "Web services and workflows for automated protein-protein interaction discovery" Created a web service version of the SLiMFinder program which was available online on the BioCatalogue Constructed a Bioinformatics Workflow to provide information on motifs in proteins which was used to analyse protein data
