Senior Risk Analyst (Enterprise Risk Management-ERM)

I managed insurance related risk and as part of this activity, I reviewed pricing and reserving assumptions used for valuations based recommendations of the internal actuaries, and also provided an independent risk-based opinion. I championed the development of the business risk register (pre-automation phase). This involved development of Actuarial, Finance, and Operational related KRIs and consultations with departmental heads. I was responsible for the preparation of enterprise risk reports used for deliberations at MAN-COM and Board meetings. This activity involved risk Identification and monitoring with the aid of the firm-wide risk register and consultations with department heads across the company. I championed the transfer of the Company’s Economic Capital (EC) assessment process from the Actuarial Team to the ERM team. This involved validation of the EC Assumptions (Solvency II based), using the WTW’s RiskAgility Financial Modeler to calculate the SCR at composite and risk factor levels for the life business, calculating relevant ratios such as the RORAC and EC coverage at different levels, and creating a standard EC reporting template used for reporting the EC results along with recommendations to the Board. I championed the creation of the company's 1st Economic Capital (EC) Framework: guidelines for using the economic capital results for strategic asset allocation, risk appetite limit setting, performance measurement, and dividend distribution. I was a member of the Company's IFRS 9 & 17 implementation team and led the data gathering phase to fulfil the requirements of these standards. I worked with the external actuaries as we met to proffer solutions to potential implementation challenges for the business.

Experienced Associate (Actuarial and Insurance Management Services- AIMS)

I developed pension, severance benefit, long service award, and gratuity excel models in line with the requirements of IAS 19 and benefit design of clients. I also led modelling, review, and technical audit support projects in compliance with IAS 19. I led a team of consultants on impact and gap assessment, implementation, business automation, and technical audit support IFRS 9 and IFRS 17 projects for clients. I was part of a team of actuarial consultants that developed Expected Credit Loss (ECL) models for banks, insurance companies, and manufacturing businesses in line with the requirements of IFRS 9. In corroboration with the actuarial director, I developed the Team's internal life assurance product pricing and reserving models. This project involved the development of a standard audit trail for these models and the establishment of standard model governance regulations. I led Actuarial due diligence projects (MA-related). As the team lead, I calculated technical reserves, back tested, and assessed the adequacy of historical reserves. I was responsible for expert review of technical reserves of life and general insurances companies as part of IFRS 4 audit support. This involved the review of year end assumptions, methods, and figures to ascertain their reasonableness and compliance with the requirements of IFRS 4 (before IFRS 17 was introduced). I created IFRS 9 and 17 tailored training materials used for training clients and anchored these sessions.

I facilitated tax compliance services and supported clients in filing returns and processing tax clearance. I was a member of tax audit and investigation teams (doer). I prepared responses to tax queries or assessments from regulators and represented clients at meetings with regulators. I calculated taxes using excel and in line with the tax manual and processed remittances for both locals and expatriate clients.

Audit Intern

I was primarily responsible for gathering audit evidence on different audit engagements. This Involved, vouching FSLIs such as OPEX, PPE, cash and bank, Inventory, and Payroll. I also verified assets and engaged in stock counts where necessary. I conducted analytical reviews of Financial Statements, prepared draft reports and documented audit evidence using CaseWare audit software- the primary audit software of the Company at the time. I worked on 7 different audit engagements across manufacturing, hospitality and financial services industries during my 6 months internship.
