Statistics Canada | Apr 2023 - Jun 2023

Data Scientist (Intern)

• Analyzed Real-time Local Business Conditions Index (RT-LBCI) and aggregated it from weekly to monthly and created its lagged versions. • Used the aggregated index, weekly and monthly lagged versions, along with other relevant explanatory variables found using literature review to forecast/predict macroeconomic indicators for Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs): Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. • Performed forecasting analysis, sensitivity analysis, leading indicator simulation (cross-correlation analysis) and used time series models to predict/forecast the response variables (macro-economic indicators: Retail Sales and Unemployment Rate). • Performed data cleaning, data manipulation, data analysis, and EDA on data of 8 explanatory variables found on StatCan website and accumulated all the clean data to create our own datasets for each city. • Determined if RT-LBCI and any other explanatory variables are leading indicators in predictions. • Compared the performances of various models like Multiple Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, ARMA, ARIMA, ARIMAX, VARMAX, and SARIMAX in predictions.

Loss Prevention Officer

• Created incident reports in Tableau to visualize incident report data from 5 stores in the Okanagan and Thompson Nicole regions for the store management to identify high-risk areas for shoplifting and concealment. Consequently, 18 showcases were installed around the store to safeguard frequently targeted high-value products, mitigating instances of shoplifting. • Analyzed interventions data for self-checkouts in Excel to identify intervals of low associate attentiveness. Encouraging interventions in those durations increased monitoring and supervision of customers' activities to detect and reduce shoplifting, concealment, and frauds. This helped the store save more than $13,000 in shrink. • Implemented data-driven spatial utilization by looking at monthly reports of backroom work completion and units sold per department which improved backroom work completion from 17% to 54% by efficiently stocking shelves with overstock items. • Successfully conducted on-going associate training sessions in implementing effective loss prevention measures. • Analysed online order fulfilment data along with daily attendance report for various months leading to an effective associate allocation system, resulting in processing of 14 extra online orders daily and an average of 4 additional skids of freight being stocked on the sales floor.

Operations & Sort Supervisor

• Successfully managed a team of 40+ sorters, assisting in their hiring and payroll procedures, scheduling, inventory management, work planning and allocation, safety and compliance, process improvement, equipment maintenance, and communication & coordination. • Conceptualized and created quarterly presentations in PowerBI for total hours worked, daily workforce size and daily packages reports for station and regional managers. • Optimized floor plans and spatial utilization by examining the above said data in Excel, reducing the personnel required to sort packages by 35% (from 43 to 28) for average daily packages. • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills by comparing and securing competitive quotations from delivery companies. • Attained a more diverse delivery route network for an average of 24,000 packages handled daily by cultivating and strengthening relationships with partner companies, resulting in a 109% increase (from 11 to 23) in the number of companies working with the warehouse. • Lead the establishment and operational management of a new warehouse in Richmond. • Trained the new staff and management on Transport Management software (Progression), Route Optimization software (Horasphere) and Payroll software (Nethris), supply chain management, warehouse equipment, personal protective strategies, optimal spatial utilization, and ergonomic floor planning.
