Junior Consultant

During my employment as a junior consultant at ALTEN Switzerland AG, my first project took me to a Johnson&Johnson subsidiary, the Cilag AG at Campus Schaffhausen, which is one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers in Switzerland. Here I contribute to ensuring the highest quality standards of parenteral drugs.

Scientific Assistant

The faculty 'Medical and Life Sciences' (Furtwangen University) is conducting research on microplastics - among several other projects - and has been able to publish groundbreaking work on this subject. Especially the study of potential toxicity of microplastics and its underlying mechanisms is a project of great importance and significance for mankind. I have successfully contributed to this research by developing a protocol to generate fine polyethylene (PE) particles by cryogenic milling. The PE powder can be used to simulate exposure to microplastics in vitro.

Bachelor Thesis

I developed a Scintillation-Proximity-Assay (SPA) protocol as a drug-screening method, which can be used to screen for potential therapeutic agents (e.g. therapy of phosphororganic intoxication). The highly sensitive measurement of receptor-bound radioactive markers makes this method highly adaptable, timesaving and precise at the same time. I optimized this assay for high-throughput use and therefore implemented the SPA on the fully automatable liquid handling system TECAN Fluent. I was also able to validate this method in conformity with FDA and EMA guidelines.

Student Internship

Through my work at the Bundeswehr Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, I was able to gain considerable insight into a research and analytical environment. My work consisted of planning and implementing a reasonable approach in order to improve an extraction protocol for isolating nicotinic acetylcholine receptors from native tissue. After a series of measurements and analyses, the introduced changes and the newly introduced devices and steps resulted in an extraction protocol in which several critical parameters could be optimized. To achieve this goal, I had to use many state-of-the-art techniques, devices and methods.

This internship enabled me to gain insight into clinical cancer therapy (mainly chemotherapy), tumor documentation (software), and cancer registry.

Internship Neurology

Besides getting insight about clinically applied imaging methods and interventional radiology, I especially supported and accompanied the work of medical professionals at the stroke unit of a large clinical center. Being there and supporting the nurses in treating and caring for the patients has led me to have a great respect and admiration for all medical professionals.
