Graduate Research Engineer

As a Graduate Research Engineer, I contributed to the design, development, and testing of gas detection technologies, focusing on enhancing system performance, automating workflows, and delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges. Key achievements include: Preliminary SUBNOx Project: Designed a gas monitoring system for post-fire safety applications. Developed prototypes, optimised gas pathways, and refined performance through extensive testing. Delivered prototypes to external partners for validation and feedback. Calibration Optimisation: Resolved sensor calibration issues, improving reliability and first-time pass rates. Developed tools to automate pressure compensation calculations, saving time and ensuring consistency. Automation Tools: Created a Python-based simulation tool to model sensor behaviour, significantly reducing physical testing time. Automated data workflows to replace manual processes, saving over 250 hours annually and improving data accuracy. CO₂ Scrubber Testing: Designed a testing system to evaluate scrubber performance under varying conditions. Delivered critical performance insights to stakeholders, demonstrating the impact of gas flow rates on scrubber efficiency. Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentored placement students and junior engineers on programming, testing workflows, and data analysis. Worked cross-functionally with teams to deliver actionable insights, optimise processes, and support business-critical projects. Skills: Python programming, sensor integration and testing, workflow automation, data analysis, hardware design, technical troubleshooting, and documentation. I balanced technical innovation with practical problem-solving, delivering measurable improvements to product reliability, testing efficiency, and team workflows. My work supported critical safety applications and streamlined processes, driving long-term value for the organisation.

Texon International Group Limited | Jun 2018 - Sep 2018

Project Technician

Employed as Project Technician on short term contract for Texon Non-Woven Ltd. I was responsible for making ‘sales samples’ that demonstrated the key material properties (i.e., strength, resistance and flexibility). My main role was to set-up and use the laboratory equipment and ensure all samples are uniform and conformed to standards. This position gave me the experience of working to tight deadlines; using my own initiative and working in a technical team environment.
