Business Intelligence Analyst

Responsible for providing accurate, timely, and meaningful analysis of data through visually engaging reports and dashboards that enable management level staff to effectively measure performance and progress against strategic and operational goals. Undertaking user requirement exercises and workshops to understand and gather the intelligence requirements of key business stakeholders. Scope, design and create business Intelligence solutions including reports and visually engaging dashboards that enable the University to measure progress and performance against strategic and operational objectives. Working closely with source system experts and evaluate the impact of source system (e.g. SITS) upgrades and developments on reporting. Sourcing data from both internal and external sources to create insight to support evidence-based decision making across the organisation. Connecting with external communities and forums and keep in tune with developments in data visualisation techniques. Implementing creative visualisation techniques and approaches ensuring that data and analysis is easy to understand and interpret. To achieve wide adoption of business intelligence reports and dashboards through excellent customer service support and delivering training. Supporting all administration associated with the University’s BI solution by developing, managing and maintaining internal standards to improve the consistency, usability and accuracy of BI outputs including but not limited to data quality logs, access permissions for reports/dashboards and training materials. Contributing to the development of common business data definitions and a data dictionary.

Data Analyst (Data Quality & Reporting)

To undertake on behalf of the University, statutory student and statistical returns to external agencies (HESA/OfS) using the University’s student record system SITS and other relevant systems relating to statutory submissions. This includes compiling data for production of returns; cleansing and verify its accuracy and carrying out necessary amendments to data files and system tables arising from the changing requirements of the external agencies. Validating the accuracy and completeness of relevant data on the student record system and other relevant systems relation to statutory submissions. This includes ensuring that all statutory related coding held on the University’s student record system is accurate and updated in a timely manner following release. To maintain awareness of developments within SITS to facilitate the delivery of statutory returns. To advise internal departments on the best practice in the collection and holding of student data required for external statutory returns. Assisting with the Student Data Quality Improvement project. Playing a key and active role in HESA Data Futures pilot preparations and undertaking on behalf of the University, Data Futures submission. Providing statistical data including analysis for senior management to aid strategic decision making. Making significant contribution in creating a suite of standard reports using Business Intelligence tool such as power BI and Tableau to aid business processes and to provide management information for internal and external stakeholders. Assist in developing and producing policies and procedures related to quality reporting and analysis processes.

Providing administrative support to the University's key planning processes and external reporting requirements. Some of my main duties and responsibilities include: Assisting with the collection and submission of data for the University's data returns such as HESA Student return, HESA Aggregate Offshore, UNISTATS and ILR. Servicing Strategic Planning HESA meetings with Academic Registry, circulating Agenda and Other papers, attending and minuting the meeting, producing and circulating finalized minutes and other outcomes. Assisting with the efficient, effective and timely management of UEL's own planning systems and processes, helping to ensure that plans progress reports, management information and other data are produced and distributed on time. This involves collecting, manipulating and interpreting data from a variety of sources. Supporting University's decision making by supporting the production of reports by extracting data from the University's information systems and other sources. Maintaining good working relationships with colleagues in Colleges and other services as required for the timely completion of data returns and other planning processes.

some of my responsibilities were: To monitor and maintain course records in UCAS, Student Loans Company and university systems so that they accurately reflect the current status of programmes at UEL. To support the Registry Service with the production of data sets and data clearing To support the Registry Service with systems-related projects such as upgrades, new system implementation and user acceptance testing. To work within prescribed policies, regulations and procedures, including those of HESA, Student Loans Company and UCAS. To review involvement in student records functions and to recommend to the Student Records Manager ways of improving the service offered so that: It becomes more responsive to the needs of users; It emulates best practice at other institutions of higher education; It ensures compliance with UEL, Student Loans Company and HESA requirements. To participate in Enrolment Centres and other student registration events. To participate in the delivery of appropriate training and briefing sessions for academic and administrative staff on UEL’s student records policies and processes. To fully support the work of other Student Registry teams and the Student Centre through cross-working at peak periods and the provision of front-line response to students visiting the Student Centre.
