Data Architect | Data Lead

Guiding WCC in Unleashing the Full Potential of their Data Platform I embarked on a transformative journey with WCC, partnering with them to drive the further rollout and implementation of their cutting-edge data platform powered by Snowflake. Focusing on Data Architecture, DevOps/DataOps, People leadership and Data Governance & Management, I supported WCC in enabling the full exploitation of their data's potential. As team lead Data I was the defacto Data Platform owner. Leveraging a profound understanding of Data Architecture [Data Lake], I closely collaborated with WCC to design and optimise their data infrastructure. This ensured scalability, efficiency, and seamless integration within the Snowflake ecosystem. The implementation of industry-leading DevOps and DataOps practices streamlined workflows, accelerated development cycles, and maximized the agility of their data platform. Acknowledging the critical importance of Data Governance, I established robust frameworks and processes to effectively govern and manage WCC's data assets. This encompassed defining data standards, implementing data quality controls, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Instilling a culture of data governance empowered WCC to leverage its data strategically, facilitating informed decision-making across the organization. Through collaborative partnerships and a hands-on approach, I closely engaged with WCC's stakeholders, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to extract actionable insights from their data platform. Providing training, guidance, and ongoing support ensured the successful adoption and utilisation of the data platform across the organisation. Together, we revolutionised WCC's data landscape, unlocking new avenues for innovation and growth. With meticulous attention to detail, strategic thinking, and a dedication to data excellence, we empowered WCC to make data-driven decisions that foster positive impact and deliver remarkable outcomes.

Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand | Jun 2022 - Dec 2022

Team Lead - National Immunisation Programme Strategic & Adhoc Reporting

In my leadership role at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand agency, I led the strategic and ad-hoc reporting of the National Immunisation Programme, shifting from Excel reporting to PowerBI. Managing a team of 12 skilled Business and Data Analysts, we enhanced Te Whatu Ora's reporting capabilities in the critical immunisation and vaccination space, covering COVID-19, MMR, Flu, HPV, Polio, and more. To ensure precision, timeliness, and data accessibility, I introduced a state- of-the-art DataOps-based Operating Model. By establishing robust Standard Operating Procedures (SIPOC), we raised data quality standards, ensuring the reliability and integrity of our reporting. Recognising the importance of stakeholder trust in data, I developed a comprehensive Data Governance & Data Management implementation plan, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability to instill confidence in our data. To maintain precise control over deliverables, we expanded the use of Jira and implemented Kanban, applying DevOps principles such as Epics, Features, and Stories. This allowed us to seamlessly track progress, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver outstanding result.

IHC Group | Sep 2021 - Jun 2022

Data Lead | Architect

Led a team of 5 Data Engineers, transforming them into a DataOps team through the introduction and implementation of a DevOps & DataOps operating model. Established Standard Operating Procedures (SIPOC) and ITIL change, release, incident, and problem management processes tailored for Data Engineering efficiency. To maintain control over deliverables, introduced Azure DevOps (Epics, Features, and Stories) for precise work tracking and optimized time management. Emphasized a focus on maximum time spent on stories, ensuring a streamlined and capped work in progress (WIP). Delivered a data strategy roadmap facilitating the rollout of Data Governance and Management. Implemented Snowflake as IHC's Data Lake with Airflow, Python, and PowerBI layered on top. Initiated the setup 24 months ago, refining the data lake architecture for improved data validation, accuracy, historical data, and reduced storage using Snowflake's zero copy clone functionality. Developed a phase 2 refinement architecture, approved by the architecture team. In response to a CIO mandate, the role of Data Lead was bifurcated into Data Manager (people) and Principal Data Engineer (Technology). This strategic move ensured equal coverage of people, delivery, and architecture. Successful recruitment secured resources for both roles. My next step involved a comprehensive handover to the Data Management team.
