Science Consultant

-Supporting the Science team with results reporting and data analysis conducted in R. -Supporting the back-end streamlining and automation of System-3 assessment reports using R; aid in developing dashboards and reports that pull prospect information from the System-3 assessment. -Participating in special projects and initiatives where people analytics support is required. -Querying data from MongoDB to R to further automate report-building initiatives. -Performing data manipulation (e.g., filtering, aggregating, subsetting, arranging, merging, applying transformations, looping, nesting/unnesting), cleaning (e.g., converting data types, string transformations, recoding/ releveling factors, removing NAs), conducting statistical analyses (e.g., Thurstonian Item Response Theory, t-tests, binary and multinomial logistic regressions, correlations for convergent validity, exploratory factor analyses, confirmatory factor analyses, power analyses), and creating visualizations (e.g., 3D plots for logistic regression, scatterplots, histograms, boxplots). -Calculating various descriptive (e.g., sample sizes, means, medians, standard deviations, variances, ranges) and inferential statistics (e.g., p-values, t-values, degrees of freedom, effect size coefficients, confidence intervals, model fit and parsimony indices, chi-square values, homogeneity of variance indices, VIFs, AICs, BICs, leverage, and influence statistics). -Creating custom functions in R to efficiently run scripts for all data initiatives mentioned above.

SOAR Peer Ambassador

Summer Orientation to Academics and Resources (SOAR) is for incoming students and their families/supporters. Designed to help facilitate the transition from high school to university, SOAR offers participants the opportunity to hear from campus partners on transition topics, make connections with staff, faculty, and upper-year students, and access resources and ask questions. As a SOAR Peer Ambassador, I assist with the preparation of SOAR content and the implementation of programming during SOAR days. As well, I play a key role in facilitating event logistics and act as a resource in responding to the questions and concerns of SOAR attendees.

Research Assistant

I initially joined the POPMEM computational cognitive neuroscience lab in May of 2019 as a research assistant funded by an NSERC-USRA. I then fulfilled this award until September. Beginning January of 2020, I conducted independent research as part of the PSYC 575—Directed Lab course. Currently, I am being paid as I am wrapping up the research I have been working on in the lab. -Segmenting and analyzing over 350 control and Alzheimer’s Disease hippocampi to examine longitudinal changes in uncal apex positioning -Mentored and supervised a research assistant who assisted in the data collection of the project described above -Utilized FreeView software to segment human hippocampi -Utilized 3D Slicer software to qualitatively observe hippocampi dentations -Transcribed and analyzed participants’ free recall of films that they had seen during an experiment -Collaborated with other trained raters to assess protocol for rating the participant transcripts -Rated a measure of creativity and conducted an inter-correlational coefficient analysis using SPSS statistical software -Featured Publication: Poppenk, J. 2020.
