My Work Experience

Where I've interned and worked during my career.

Valmar Holdings LLC | Nov 2020 - Oct 2023

Chief Analytics Officer

At Valmar, my role as the Chief Analytics Officer merged the realms of data science and business process optimization. I championed the design and implementation of advanced analytical systems, transforming data into actionable insights to drive business growth. Lead Underwriting Process Innovation: Spearheaded the transformation of traditional underwriting into an advanced decision tree model. Addressed challenges of data availability by weaving together multiple machine-learning trees, culminating in a holistic, robust underwriting system adaptable to diverse lending portfolios. Business Systems Auditing & KPI Optimization: Regularly audited multifaceted systems with varying time scales. By collating data from diverse sources, I ensured consistent performance monitoring and KPI enhancement, playing a pivotal role in business decision-making. Investment Collaboration: In a unique intersection of finance and data, I worked hand-in-hand with a Morgan Stanley portfolio manager. My analytical expertise augmented strategies for stock purchasing, option writing, and trading, optimizing returns on the owners' investments. Underwriting Product Development: Evaluated emerging products for lead purchasing integration and pioneered company-owned underwriting services. My initiatives, especially in fraud evaluation based on digital footprints like phone numbers, emails, and IP addresses, fortified our defense against fraudulent activities. Beyond the hard skills, my tenure at Valmar reinforced the power of iterative development. Confronted with intricate challenges, my strategy often revolved around optimization goals rather than fixed solutions, fostering adaptability and continuous improvement.

Dept. of Physics, Univ. of California, San Diego | Sep 2016 - Oct 2020

Graduate Student Researcher

-Designed and developed a dynamical system that can solve optimization problems with one million variables and millions of constraints. -Compared successful optimization algorithms against the MemComputing paradigm, generating and collecting more than 10,000 problem instances for meaningful comparison. -Modified dynamical system to sample the mode of the model distribution of a restricted Boltzmann machine by solving a QUBO problem mapped into a MAX-2-SAT problem. -Studied recurrent neural networks and used an echo state network for time- series forecasting of cellular automata.

Wyzant | Jun 2015 - Sep 2019

Private Tutor

-In-person and online tutor for over 100 high school and college students in various physics and mathematics courses, catering to students with alternative learning styles. -Consulted for futures trader, generating results counter to contracted developer, saving more than $10,000. I have tutored several subjects at the high school and college level, including calculus, physics, (partial) differential equations, machine learning, Mathematica, MATLAB, and Python. In addition to traditional subjects, I assist students in technology projects, such as those involving Arduino microcontrollers and Raspberry Pi computers. During my time as a tutor, I discovered that I work well with non-traditional learners, i.e., those who most often require tutoring because they do not learn well in a classroom setting. Teaching those who require a unique presentation of subject material has given me insight into my own understanding of difficult topics.

UCSD Physics Dept. | Jul 2015 - Sep 2016

Graduate Student Researcher

As part of Dr. Dimitri Basov's research group, I worked in a experimental condensed matter physics laboratory. I investigated few-layer black phosphorus, with the goal of observing surface plasmons via scanning near- field microscopy (SNOM). In our low-temperature SNOM system, I seeked to probe the superfluid in superconducting mercury cuprate samples.

University at Buffalo | Dec 2012 - Jun 2015

Undergraduate Research Assistant

-Simulated spin-laser operation in Mathematica, generating data to analyze and showing optimal digital operation occurs with unconventional material properties. -Swept parameter space of coupled nonlinear dynamical system to discover non-monotonic trends that assisted the development of ultrafast spin-lasers.
