Data Scientist

In my role as a Data Scientist at CNOOC International, I leverage data science and business analysis techniques to deliver innovative solutions that enhance operational decision-making and drive business value. Collaborating across diverse business functions, I design, build, and implement data-driven systems, models, and processes to address complex challenges. Key Responsibilities: Apply business analysis to identify requirements and opportunities for data- driven insights. Develop predictive models using advanced machine learning techniques such as regression, classification, and clustering. Create clear, actionable visualisations to communicate insights and model outputs effectively. Lead the implementation of IT projects, adhering to CNOOC's project management and change management methodologies. Coordinate with vendors and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. Key Achievements: Smart P&ID System: Delivered an end-to-end solution using computer vision, OCR, and text analysis to convert PDF P&ID diagrams into interactive smart documents, accessible via a Streamlit app. Similarity Matching with NLP: Implemented a solution to identify contract compliance by matching documents against predefined templates. RPA Platform Enhancement: Led the migration of the RPA platform, retaining Blue Prism software while introducing Microsoft Power Automate, resulting in significant cost savings and expanded automation capabilities. Modernising Python Development: Leading the creation of a data science function by modernising the Python development environment, introducing DevOps practices, and implementing Software Composition Analysis (SCA) tools. Through a combination of technical expertise, stakeholder management, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement, I contribute to CNOOC's mission of maximizing value from data-driven initiatives.

Trainee Data Scientist

Data Scientist (Transitioning) | IT Business Analyst Leveraging a strong foundation in data analysis, statistics, and programming, I'm transitioning from IT Business Analyst to Data Scientist at CNOOC International. This passion for data-driven solutions led me to spearhead several successful ML PoCs, demonstrating the power of AI to optimise operations and decision-making. Technical Skills: Python, SQL, Logi Analytics, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Keras. Data Science Impact: Automated Corrosion Detection (91% Accuracy): Developed a CNN model for image-based corrosion classification with 91% accuracy, streamlining inspections, reducing manual image review, and enabling better maintenance planning which could deliver significant cost savings. Streamlined Contract Search (NLP): Designed and implemented an NLP pipeline using TF-IDF and kNN for efficient contract search, empowering the Contracts & Supply Chain team by enabling faster retrieval of key terms. Widespread adoption could further reduce workload by allowing analysts to focus on non-standard contracts. Underwater Object Detection PoC: Delivered a PoC for a cloud-based ML solution for automatic object detection in ROV survey footage. This project explored the feasibility of using ML to enhance underwater inspections with the potential for improved efficiency and safety. Business Acumen & Project Management: Robotic Process Automation Migration (In Progress): Leading the migration of RPA software to a new vendor, projected to save an estimated £150k over the initial contract duration building on existing annual savings of £100k. This highlights my ability to manage stakeholders and negotiate cost-effective solutions. Emergency Response Software Upgrade: Led the successful upgrade and transition of critical ER software to an on-prem solution in the UK, ensuring seamless implementation and user adoption. This experience highlights my strong project management skills and ability to deliver complex IT projects.
