The high throughput screening group is responsible for generating and evaluating strains for the production of high value renewable molecules. We use automated liquid handling robots to run experiments and assays in 96 well micro-titer plate format. My contributions to the group include: Use of various programs and tools to provide statistically significant decisions for strain evaluation, automation quality control, and assay development including: R, SQL, Spotfire, JMP, and Minitab. Collaborate with the scientific computing group to investigate and troubleshoot data and database issues. Contributing member of the internal coding and algorithm group. I presented tutorials on R programming, statistical concepts, relevant work, and personal projects. Project coordinator for screening and analytics capabilities. Served as a point of contact to align groups by coordinating meetings, relaying information, tracking work progress across different analytical groups, and providing guidance to the project. Worked on different teams to deliver new screening capabilities including: development of a xylose sugar enzymatic assay, and an assay designed to measure the metabolic flux of the farnesene pathway by using glucose labeled with carbon 13 isotope. Lead project to develop a kinetic assay measuring the growth rate of strains. I performed all aspects of the project life cycle including: project plan writing and proposal, research, design, and execution of experiments, analysis of results, and reporting. Operations and management of a mutagenesis pipeline. Evaluated strains, tracked and promoted top performing strains to large scale screening platforms. Managed a robust, multi-assay pipeline for two years. Responsibilities included scheduling and collaborating with requestors, lab operations, data qc and analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting.

Laboratory Technician

Monitored the fermentation process using wet chemistry, spectrophotometry, enzymatic assays, and contemporary analytical instruments including the high performance Oenofoss/FTIR. Quality control of all barrel lots and tanks on a monthly basis, and assisted winemakers with blending procedures, stability trials, and management of day to day operations using databases and Microsoft programs to write work orders and S.O.P.'s for the cellar crew to perform. Responsible for the grower barrel program, consisting of 127 barrels of single varietal wines representing all of our individual growers/vineyards from the 2010 harvest.

Corner 50 Winery | Feb 2010 - May 2010

Cellar Hand

Responsible for receiving fruit and monitoring crush and press procedures. Assisted with vineyard work pre-harvest, fermentations, barrel work, and maintaining sanitary work environment. Worked with fining, racking, pump overs, inoculations, nutrient and chemical additions. Kept meticulous records of all procedures in the cellar.

Robert Mondavi Winery | Jul 2009 - Jan 2010

Laboratory Technician

spectrophotometry, enzymatic assays, and other contemporary wine making techniques. Use of high performance equipment including the CHEMWELL. Quality control of on and off premise barrel lots and tanks.
