Senior Developer, R&D Engineer

In 2025, I moved into a combined role as Senior Developer and R&D Engineer. Together with our CEO and one other colleague, I form a small innovation team dedicated to shaping the company’s future — experimenting, automating, and translating ideas into tangible improvements. We explore opportunities for both technical and strategic growth: automating financial processes, using data to guide decisions, and introducing AI-powered tools — from workflow automation to internal AI agents that index our documentation and support tickets.

Web Developer

I’ve been freelancing for several years, originally starting out on Upwork and gradually building a diverse portfolio of international clients. At the same time, I’ve grown as a developer through my work at Stuurlui as a senior developer, and as part of the R&D team. Along the way, I’ve contributed to large open source projects like WordPress core and Gutenberg. These combined experiences have given me a strong foundation in both technical depth and strategic thinking. Today, I take on a wide variety of projects — from creative portfolios and startups to large-scale webshops and advanced applications. My freelance services cover the full spectrum: strategy, asking the right questions, client communication, hosting, design, development, SEO, and performance optimization. I also help businesses automate parts of their operations by writing custom scripts or integrating third-party services via APIs. Whether it’s building a fast, responsive website or streamlining internal workflows, I focus on delivering solutions that are both effective and maintainable.

I started at Stuurlui as a Web Developer, diving into their stack and quickly taking ownership of projects that went beyond standard site builds. Early on, I developed web scrapers, migrated non-WordPress sites, and built custom integrations with third-party APIs. My curiosity for solving complex problems and improving workflows soon shaped my role within the team.

Freelance Filmmaker

As a freelance video editor for Deloitte, I worked on producing aftermovies for expeditions such as Mount Kilimanjaro climbs and the Vasaloppet in Sweden. I handled nearly the entire process — from pre-production and creative direction to editing, titles, music, and final delivery. For one project, I also joined the team on-site in Sweden to capture additional footage. Together with my main contact at Deloitte, I shaped the overall feel and storytelling of each film. When I later shifted my professional focus toward development, I recommended a close friend and filmmaker to take over, ensuring a smooth continuation of the collaboration.

As a sound technician at the surf festival Enter the Wave in Spain, I handled stage preparation, artist support, soundchecks, and live audio during performances, open mics, and movie nights. The role taught me a lot about communication, persuasion, and maintaining integrity in sales — being convincing without losing honesty or authenticity.

Songwriter

As an artist, musician, and songwriter, I release music under the name Thom Benjamin — indie folk inspired by artists like John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, and Jason Mraz. Beyond my own work, I write and produce for other artists, including collaborations with songwriters and performers signed to major labels such as Warner Music. I’ve also taken part in writing camps, including for Eurovision, and contributed to songs by international artists. Earlier in my career, I participated in Idols (2016), where I finished in the semi-finals after several live performances on national television.
