I am investigating a role of TGF beta signaling in brown and white adipose tissue physiology. Increasing circulating TGF beta levels have been reported in obese individual as well as in obesity rodent models. Previous findings from our lab has reported that Smad-3, one of the transcription factor involved in TGFb signaling plays an important role in adipose tissue transformation from white to brown when challenged with high fat diet. TGFb I receptor plays a crucial role of recruiting TGF b II and form a complex with SMADs, therefore we hypothesize that effects of TGF b signaling are mediated at receptor levels.
