Elementary School Teacher

During the first strike I experienced as a student in 2019, I began working as a teacher in one of my community's primary schools. This school serves the majority of the children in my neighborhood. I graduated from this school as a child as well. My community is one of Nigeria's undeserving communities, and it is not uncommon to see young children plagued by hopelessness and fixed mindsets as a result of their family background. I saw teaching in this primary school as a means of effecting change. Having attended this school, I recall being able to break free from this negative mindset due to the high quality of information I was exposed to early on. This aided in changing my mindset. As a teacher at this school, I didn't just teach them any subject for the sake of getting good grades; I also explained why they needed the knowledge and how it would help them in the real world. By the end of the strike, more than 50 students had been affected. I was able to strategically accomplish this through the Intersport competition that the school held during that time period. While assisting other teachers in preparing students for the competition, I encouraged sportsmanship, teamwork, diligence, and a growth mindset.

I took the university matriculation exam shortly after finishing high school and went on to seek job opportunities to gain market experience before my results were released. There were no open positions in the organization I wanted to apply to, but someone recommended me to the CEO. He interviewed me and decided to offer me a full-time position after the interview. After working there for a while before leaving for school, the CEO complimented me on my ability to learn quickly, attend to customers most professionally and persuasively, keep good records of over 500 sales daily, and that sales improved more than the previous months ROI.
