At VTT I worked on: - algorithm development for machine learning applications with big hyperspectral spatial datasets (+60gb) - Published 4 papers in top peer-review journals. - Responsible for the collection, processing and analyzing of big spatial datasets (60+ gb) acquired by airborne sensors. - Assisted in writing project proposals for EU funding. Technical skills: R programming, Python, Linux, Excel, IDL, Lastools, Image processing tools: Envi, Erdas, Parge The results have been published in several papers in top peer review journals in the field of data science and applied research.

In my current role I lead Advian's satellite and hyperspectral projects. As a data scientist consultant I help customers with analyzing large (geo-spatial) data to find patterns and solutions to business problems using machine learning algorithms. - Conduct independent research utilizing state of the art methodologies to plan and execute hyperspectral imaging for product development and quality control. · Frequent interaction and presentation of scientific results to team members, clients and upper management. During my time at UZH dept. of Geography I work on big data spatial analysis in the form of airborne hyperspectral data. Together with other researchers we try to predict relationships between shadow- sunlit fractions and light use efficiency measured at different times of the day for various tree species. The study site is the Laegern forest close to Zurich.

Remote sensing consultant for forest stratification of REDD+ forest plots

A GIZ funded research project in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Fiji forestry department. The objective of this research project is to explore the potential of object oriented image analysis in forest stratification of REDD+ forest plots in Fiji. In close collaboration with different stakeholders I investigated how analyzing very high resolution imagery with an object based approach can aid in stratifying tropical forest areas for Fiji's two main islands. In addition to the research I developed curriculum for workshops and training sessions for the Fijian forestry department on topics such as: analysis of very- high spatial resolution imagery and object based image classification.

MSC thesis Geo-Information Science

Within this MSC thesis I applied a decision tree machine learning algorithm to investigate forest and land cover changes for a National rainforest in west Africa using satellite data and socio-economic data. Using enhanced Vegetation change detection algorithms (NDFI by Carlos Souza et al. 2010) I aim to detect abrupt forest changes in a time period of 25 years (1985-2010) and link this with socio-economic data conducted through household surveys regarding land- and forest use for the Gola National Forest. Software used: Envi Image processing, IDL, ArcMap 10, Ecognition, R programming, Erdas Imagine, machine learning, decision trees, logistic regression
