University of Toronto Stable Isotope Laboratory | Sep 2015 - Sep 2016

Graduate Researcher

• Worked with large analytical data sets to investigate topics in environmental chemistry. • Designed chemistry and microbiology experiments, and carried out statistical analyses on results. • Collaborated with a team of multidisciplinary researchers to accomplish a variety of research goals. THESIS: My MSc. thesis investigated the origin of natural gas deposits in Southwestern Ontario, and their relevance to nuclear waste disposal projects proposed in that region. The ability of microbes to produce methane gas is a process that could alter the hydraulic flow properties of rock formations, and therefore the safety case for a nuclear repository must account for this possibility. I used mass spectrometry measurements to fingerprint the chemical reactions that produced the natural gas in Southwestern Ontario. This identified a mixture of microbially produced gas and geothermally produced gas. Overall, this new data increased our understanding of the hydrodynamic systems at play in Southwestern Ontario.

Nuclear Waste Management Organization | May 2015 - Sep 2015

Industry Research Intern

• Completed laboratory analyses as part of a material corrosion test, studying the effects of corrosion on metals that may be used to contain nuclear waste in deep geological repositories. • Planned and carried out a research project abroad, including chemical and biological analyses, and reporting results in written and oral presentations.

YMCA of Greater Toronto | Jun 2012 - Sep 2014

Adventure Leadership Trainer

• Responsible for facilitating development of leadership attributes and environmental awareness in youth (ages ranging from 12-16) through prolonged summer wilderness expeditions throughout Canada. • This position demanded high organization, route and emergency procedure planning, menu and nutritional planning, leisure and educational activity development and facilitation, and strong leadership capabilities to ensure the safety and positive morale of program participants.
