Freelance Editor

I have always loved languages, especially English, and the way words fit together and flow and I have discovered that I have a passion and a knack for editing and proofing documents, novels, short stories, technical manuals, and everything in between. I am currently helping an author edit and proof his semi-biographical account of the Vietnam era, and I have helped many other people with creative and technical documents.

iScribeHealth | Sep 2020 - Jan 2024

Independent Virtual Medical Scribe and QAS

I have been single-handedly scribing for an entire clinic group consisting of 4 locations and 5 providers. Previously, I was also involved in the training of new scribes, for my clinics and for other providers, as well as quality assurance work for many new scribes and veteran scribes as well. My accuracy and quality levels remain at 100% for every provider I work with, including stepping in and cross-training on other providers in multiple fields and specialties. I have an extensive medical vocabulary and terminology base, and I was a member of the Continuing Education Committee (now defunct) which aimed to assess and upgrade/evolve the training standards and documentation for new and veteran scribes. I have extensive experience with MModal Fluency Editor and Manager, and various electronic health systems, including Athena and PrognoCIS. I have basic billing and coding experience and on-the-job training as well, across multiple EHRs and medical specialties.

iScribes | Mar 2019 - Sep 2020

Virtual Medical Scribe

Not just a flat transcriptionist or medical editor - being an iScribe is so much more. We're like the right hand of the provider - allowing them to interact with and focus on their patients, without having to spend time typing out notes and updating charts.

Freelance, transcription | Jun 2017 - Mar 2019

Transcriptionist

While I am specialised in Medical Transcription and Editing and I have over 900 hours of practical work under my belt, I have found freelance work doing general video and audio transcription for a large Australian family-owned and run photographic company and superstore. It's interesting work as I have a great passion for photography; it's sometimes time-sensitive and confidential, and I get to work my own hours! I am now also working for a captioning company and enjoying the varied and interesting work with them. I also do work for Instagram.

NORPAC Foods, Inc. | Feb 2018 - Mar 2018

Quality Control

I started in Sanitation, on the graveyard shift, but was offered a position on the Swing Shift in quality control and I gladly accepted. After a very short period of training (I was told that my supervisors were very impressed with my worth ethic and the speed at which I learned new tasks) I was put onto the factory floor in production. I maintained a quality product by inspecting packaging, weights, percentages, and in the lab, I also did sampling and sizing and color of the product. I also did random sampling for bacteria in the packaging and on the product. I enjoyed my job a great deal but, unfortunately, I had to quit as my husband's military duties led us down to Arizona and I wasn't sure when, or even if, we'd be back.

The Harmonious Crow | Oct 2005 - Oct 2015

Photographer and The Big Bird

I took the plunge in 2005 to follow my dreams of being a full time professional photographer. It was both terrifying and wonderful. My own hours, my own boss, my own work. I expanded on my equestrian photography and took it to new levels. I also widened my photographic horizons (haha!) and started shooting events, other sports, architecture, products and of course whenever I traveled I would document everything and everywhere i went. My travel photos have been used in various walking guides and websites for the places I visited, and some of my product shots have been used extensively on the internet. Most widely used is my photograph of a tin robot. One of my equine portraits was hung in a gallery in Lausanne, Switzerland for a month - open to the public. It was eventually purchased by a woman from France. I have a published book of photographs (equestrian) which is listed on Amazon (and Ebay), and my photos have been used in all local newspapers for various events. As I mentioned, I have been lucky enough to work with the US Army's Viper Pit (now called the Dragon's Lair) taking photographs of the Combat Life Saver Classes (TCCC) held for not only US forces, but international military and civilian emergency first response, plus German SWAT, Polizei and government security agencies. I also took photos in a private shoot, of the military working dogs and their handlers, of the 525th MWD Detachment, to hopefully raise funds for their unit to get gear and things they need for the dogs and handlers to do their job to the best of their ability.

University of Cape Town | Dec 2008 - Mar 2011

Consultant - Customer service division

I worked daily with incoming calls at the Helpdesk - logging customer service calls and trouble-shooting over the phone where possible. I worked in the Installations team – 9 to 14 PCs and laptops and other hardware and peripherals daily, configured and installed for the client. This included delivery of the new items and peripherals all over the campus in the ICTS van. I would organise the loading, packing and unloading of the items on my own as well. I have developed step by step guides for new staff, for various installations and set up procedures. I then joined the Onsite Team, doing office visits to solve PC issues. I also dealt with incident calls and remotely assisted clients with the solving of their PC problems. This includes Mac, Linux/Unix, Windows XP and Windows 7 machines.

About Me

Andrea Vallejos

After being replaced by AI, I decided to take this opportunity for a fresh start. While I thoroughly enjoyed my work, my doctors, and my team, medical transcription was not my "dream job" and I decided to jump into Data Science and Data Analytics.
