Los Alamos National Laboratory | Jan 2018 - Present

Metrology Engineer

• Conducted statistical analyses of new laboratory equipment to characterize equipment accuracy and precision, to assist in development of uncertainty budgets, and to validate measurement methods • Assisted senior metrologists with calibration of customer and laboratory- owned items in the dimensional subsection of the calibration laboratory, which included helium-neon lasers, gauge blocks, and custom-fabricated items for various other laboratory groups, including weapons programs • Developed new calibration procedures for novel customer items, and revised existing calibration procedures for laboratory-owned equipment to reflect updated laboratory calibration and measurement capabilities, and to comply with ISO 17025 requirements • Coordinated with metrologists to ensure validity of calibration methods of customer items; conducted quality assurance reviews of calibration packages; developed uncertainty statements for measurement processes; managed workflow of incoming customer items; and assisted with procurement of new laboratory equipment • Created user accounts, provided customer technical support, and helped maintain customer calibration database as a System Administrator for IndySoft, a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) • Performed internal assessments of the MPCL and external organizations as an assessor-in-training for compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements • Served as group Derivative Classifier (DC) and Dimensional Laboratory Team Leader

Varsity Tutors | Jun 2017 - Nov 2017

Physics and Mathematics Tutor

topics, including kinematics, statistics and calculus • Taught students struggling with comprehension and retention of scientific and mathematical concepts effective learning tools tailored to their individual temperaments and abilities by identifying strengths and weaknesses in their study habits or learning strategies, and proposing new and alternative methods to foster effective and efficient independent learning strategies and retention skills • Devised individual lessons catered to the student’s current understanding and competencies, and directed students toward outside resources for further independent learning

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University | Jan 2015 - Jun 2017

Undergraduate Research Assistant - LIGO

• Composed MATLAB scripts and Linux BASH programs to process numerical and textual data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) as part of the Detector Characterization Group to identify sources of non-gravitational-wave noise in detector channels and to improve the algorithms designed to detect such noise • Developed a Linux BASH program to optimize time-frequency spectrograms for LIGO detector auxiliary channels to enable collaboration scientists to identify the full spectrum of non-gravitational-wave noise present during interferometer operation • Conducted a study on the effectiveness of vetoes on advanced LIGO data quality as an undergraduate thesis project, in which the most effective veto algorithms were identified based on efficiency to dead time ratios when coupled with different event trigger generators

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University | Aug 2014 - Aug 2015

Physics and Calculus Tutor

• Increased undergraduate students’ understanding of complex physics and mathematics topics, including kinematics, gravitation, and multivariable calculus • Taught students struggling with comprehension and retention of scientific and mathematical concepts effective learning tools tailored to their individual temperaments and abilities by identifying strengths and weaknesses in their study habits or learning strategies and proposing new and alternative methods to foster effective and efficient independent learning strategies and retention skills • Held open office hours and instructed single or multiple student groups simultaneously, often with no prior appointments or notification of the specific physics or mathematics topics to be covered

United States Marine Corps | Jul 2007 - Jul 2012

Sergeant (E-5), PMOS 6116

• Served as Material Control Specialist with VMMT-204 and VMM-365 as part of the Maintenance Control Division • Managed and inventoried all MV-22B Osprey squadron aircraft parts • Served as liaison between the squadron and the aviation supply department • Compiled daily status reports of all outstanding parts documents and orders, and reconciled these reports with the aviation supply department to ensure accuracy and timely receipt of mission-critical aircraft components • Served as non-commissioned officer-in-charge of all material control personnel • Trained and mentored new members of the material control program in support of mission readiness and maintenance control division requirements • Served as an MV-22B Flight Line Mechanic with VMMT-204 and VMM-365 • Refueled, taxied and cleaned squadron aircraft • Assisted more experienced mechanics with repairing and replacing aircraft engines, drive systems and flight control surfaces

About Me

I'm currently working as a metrology engineer (quality engineer), but would like to break into data science to leverage more of my graduate education and to better align with my own personal and professional interests in applied mathematics.
