CERN | Feb 2024 - Feb 2024

Particle Physics Researcher

Leading a team of 6, submitted a proposal on cancer therapy using pi-mesons and was invited to CERN. Conducted experiments using a particle accelerator (the proton synchrotron) and analysed the recorded data using the PyROOT framework for Python. Delivered 3 formal presentations and several informal ones to supervisors, sponsors, and management.

Ensured compliance of oncology clinical trial data with protocols, liaised with hospital staff with discretion about sensitive medical information, and prioritised between several tasks.

Verified the migration of ~1TB data from a local to an online server, wrote command-line scripts to resolve issues with missing or redundant files, prepared documentation about best practices and troubleshooting on the online platform, and advised about online SQL backends for databases.

Exam Operations Officer

Came up with an efficient method for sorting examination scripts and maintained a 0% error rate for ~2000 scripts – this method was adopted as standard operating procedure, communicated with students and university staff to organise Q&A sessions for ~50 students, and hired invigilators for exams.

Summer Researcher

Learnt and implemented molecular dynamics simulations using LAMMPS. Simulated copper at high temperatures and plotted the density-temperature relationship to determine the critical point of copper for five different interatomic potentials.

Summer Intern

Compared Lightricity’s solar-powered bluetooth trackers to competing products. Analysed the dependence of signal strengths and data rates on distance and ambient light intensity. Interpreted my results and made recommendations to the company’s management.
