Kessler Foundation | Feb 2022 - Oct 2023

Senior Research Scientist Consultant

Perform and provide consultation on • The processing and analysis of electrophysiological and neuroimaging data EEG, EMG, TMS, MRI, fMRI, DTI) • Scientific publication and grant writing on rehabilitation research projects

Kessler Foundation | Jan 2021 - Jan 2022

Senior Research Scientist

• Lead several federally and state funded research projects and clinical trials in rehabilitation engineering looking at the neurophysiological mechanisms of motor impairment and effectiveness of novel therapies (robot-assisted rehabilitation, brain stimulation, biofeedback, etc) in stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, cancer-related fatigue • Develop and implement the experimental design and perform or supervise the collection, processing and analysis of electrophysiological and neuroimaging data (EEG, EMG, TMS, MRI, fMRI, DTI) • Lead a team of research scientists, post-doctoral fellows, engineers and research assistants Projects: • EEG biomarker of hand impairment in stroke for Brain Computer Interface rehabilitation using EEG brain source analysis and ICA • Functional and structural brain mechanisms of balance deficit in traumatic brain injury (TBI) using wearable EEG and EMG during a balance perturbation task to identify neural markers of balance deficit that correlates with brain damage (DTI/MRI) using graph-theory and machine learning (PLS) • EEG biomarker of cancer-related fatigue assessing the brain vs. muscle mechanisms of increased fatigue in breast cancer survivors • PROLIFIC - A robust automated algorithm for muscle activation onsets detection in noisy EMG using a fast and robust unsupervised method using Profile-Likelihood Maximization and discrete Fibonacci search • Neurocognitive and neural effect of mindfulness for attention and emotional regulation in TBI using neuropsychological/cognitive testing and fMRI/DTI neuroimaging

Scientific Consultant

stress, burnout and wellness for the workplace wellness and assistance programs

Cleveland Clinic - Biomedical Engineering Department | Aug 2010 - Aug 2012

Research Fellow

• Manage the data collection, processing and analysis of electrophysiological recordings (EEG, EMG, TMS) for a variety of projects investigating the neuromuscular and neurophysiologic side effects of cancer and cancer treatment.

Cleveland Clinic Wellness | Jul 2010 - Aug 2012

Research Scientist

• Principal investigator of series of clinical trials aimed at studying the efficacy of online wellness programs for mindfulness-based stress management, sleep and diet. • Positive outcomes from the trials had major impact in generating interest, driving sale and helping secure contracts with important corporate clients such as General Electric.

Cleveland Clinic - Biomedical Engineering Department | Oct 2004 - Jul 2010

Research Fellow

Co-Investigator and study coordinator of three clinical trials investigating the physiological and molecular pathways linking psychological stress to cardiovascular diseases, and relaxation to well-being. • Trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and the Bakken Heart Brain Institute. • Lead and supervise the design, implementation, collection, processing and analysis of psycho-physiological recordings such as heart rate variability, ECG, skin conductance. • Manage all aspects of the clinical trials from its development and implementation to subjects screening and recruiting and data management in collaboration with physicians, nurses, the clinical lab, biostatisticians and data analysts.

General Electric Medical System | May 1997 - Dec 1998

Research and Development Engineer

Imaging Systems • In charge of the serviceability and reliability design aspect of the generator, digital, and user interface components of new products. • Managed the serviceability of the digital image processor of the world installed base of vascular imaging products
