Expertise in protein aggregation assays and suppression of protein aggregation by molecular chaperones. Dissection of disease mechanisms using cell models.

Part of double PhD program (Brazil/Netherlands) focusing on medical genetics of spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (Machado-Joseph disease). Expertise in human genetics, especially neurodegenerative diseases, and clinical research. Molecular diagnosis of polyglutamine (polyQ) diseases. Statistical modelling of disease relevant phenotypes and development of prediction models for age at onset of symptoms.
