Los Angeles County Department of Public Health | Jan 2021 - Oct 2021

Data Scientist

• Created multiple interactive internal and public facing dashboards displaying infectious disease data for Los Angeles County. • Developed a whole genome sequencing (WGS) database and implemented ETL pipelines in Airflow processing tens of inputs and 100's of GB's of epidemiologic, genomic sequence data and associated metadata. • Built analytical capacity and helped teams epidemiologists adopt new tooling to automate and improve their workflows.

Alameda County Public Health Department | Aug 2019 - Aug 2021

Epidemiologist II

• Developed time-series, clustering and predictive analytic reports and dashboards using R, SQL, ArcGIS and SAS to track spread and prevalence of 70+ communicable diseases, such as HIV, TB and COVID-19, in Alameda county. • Provided leadership for the Incident Command System (ICS) response for the county against COVID-19 as the Data Branch Chief, managing up to 25 staff members including other epidemiologists, analysts and project staff • Built the counties first COVID-19 case and contact investigation database, that contained over 15,000 records and 120 users complete with batch file versioning, a SQL Server backend, and many advanced VBA features

• Consulted with an organization to provide a churn model using client records. • Used advanced SQL querying to aggregate together 10+ tables, and used contextual knowledge to engineer features such as an engagement score to increase model performance. • Used survivor analysis to generate a probability of churning over time as well as built a binary classifier using logistic regression with lasso regularization to achieve 78% ROC AUC.

• Managed the HIV Data-to-Care program for the county, leveraging various case management and surveillance data with integrated inter-departmental work-flows to increase the number of HIV positive residents in care. • Responsible for maintenance of program management database for front-line disease investigators as well as reporting HIV related metrics and analysis of HIV data via SAS and R.
