Graduate Research Assistant

Zidovska Lab • Lead technology on all the lab’s custom image processing, data analysis and SLURM-based cloud computing cluster software (maintain 20k+ line codebase in MATLAB) • Collaborated with a cross-disciplinary team of 10+ to plan/troubleshoot wet- lab and dry-lab experiments • Deeply involved in starting up of the lab (2nd student to join lab), developing new processes and protocols, building custom parts and working with suppliers • Utilized fluorescence spinning disk-confocal microscopy in a BSL2 environment to acquire multi-wavelength time-lapses and movies of human cell nuclei (>1 TB of image data collected) • Programmed data workflow to automate the selection, image processing and analysis of terabytes of cancer imaging data, used by everyone in the lab to analyze >15,000 cells in the last 6 years • Designed a machine learning algorithm that identifies and tracks >50,000 repair focus features in noisy images. Improved precision by 4x vs conventional methods and publishing the field’s largest study. • Invented several new analytical techniques to characterize dynamics and physics of damaged chromatin • Presented research at 10 international conferences, published two papers in high impact scientific journals. Currently finishing up two more papers.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Witten Group • I analyzed colloidal particle alignment with numerical simulations (Mathematica) to explore what class of object shape can be reliably synchronized from a chaotic initial state using a random external force • I formulated a mathematical proof of the conditions needed for noise-induced synchronization of colloids • I communicated research results with published paper, presented at an international physics conference

IBM Almaden | Jun 2013 - Sep 2013

Summer Research Intern

I developed an analytical model (Python) that approximates recording process on magnetic tape and programmed micromagnetic simulations to improve magnetic tape writer designs. I found a candidate writer design that achieved 50% improvement from conventional writer

The University of Chicago | Oct 2011 - Mar 2013

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Schuster Lab • Researched literature on superconducting films to explore the recipe parameter space fabricated 28 variations of Niobium-based superconducting thin films, wrote scripts (Python) analyzing results • Designed and machined a cryostat-probe to measure components for quantum circuits at temperatures 3 degrees above absolute zero
