During this project the relationship between fluoride and osteosarcoma was investigated. The initial steps were taken to begin a systematic review which included research into the topic, looking at both fluoride and osteosarcoma, as well as the current literature on the topic. Training into advance research and Search techniques was carried out and a protocol inline with PROSPERO was compiling. A search strategy was then formed to pull the relevant literature ready for the review to begin. The review is being conducted as part of my upcoming PhD.

Mining for virulence genes: a compendium of data relating to bacterial virulence. The first stage of the project was for me to gather and to utilise FASTA protein translations from GenBank for a selection of bacterial T3SS and Housekeeping proteins and then compare these against an imported ELM motif .csv file via a basic python script. The script would then compile and produce an effector/ELM comparison file. The next stage was to analyse Microsporidia hypothetical proteins and compare these to housekeeping proteins, with the python script being updated to identify new potential virulence genes. Finally, a compendium of Microsporidia virulence proteins was to be produced. Unfortunately, due to the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the final parts of the project are yet to be completed. The project was run by Dr Paul Dean, Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at Teesside University.

Minecraft as a pedagogical and research tool in higher education The aim of the research project was to split into two parts, firstly to establish whether minecraft could be utilized as an environmental simulator for field trips. Secondly to set up a sustainable world within minecraft that students could use/build within, that produced a traceable carbon footprint based on what that person did. This could be used as a visual aid to show the individuals impact through climate change. The project is currently being tested and the lead researcher DR Helen Carney will be publishing her data.
